Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

A pleasant walk up from the gate. It's like two trigs for the price of one...or a marriage between a NSW and and ACT trig.

While travelling in the area we located this trig. Enjoyed the walk. Nice to find a 'real' one. TFTT

#GA528 - 15:20; It was time to head for home after a weekend of caching around Beechworth and Chiltern with Sol de lune and fitzy_1965. On the return journey, we dropped in to Albury to grab a couple of caches on our way through. It's difficult to believe that this readily accessible trig has gone nearly 6 months without a find. It seems that a popular walking track passes close by, but perhaps no cachers on this trail? TFTC Geocaching Australia Very HappyClan Cerberus

With Mrs DalekDudes and J from the Witty Troopers

After first trying to approach from the wrong direction we found another more logical approach. We were greeted at where we parked the car by The Terroririans and we walked up to the TP together. Nice to meet you.

A nice spot. thanks GCA

Having just left the OZ Mega Event in Albury, we quickly made our way to this trig point as part of our challenge for find 12 icons in one day - we then headed to Yackandandah for the Flashing Up the Icons Flashmob Event. It will be another busy day we have set ourselves as we plan to be in Echuca for tea.

Relatively easy trig point find. Metal tripod and original pillar.Inscription on pillar "Central Mapping Authority Geodetic Station HERRIDGE". Concrete pillar in good nick. Best vantage point is via Corrys Road.

10-Jul-11
A nice easy stroll up Red Hill from the end of Corrys Rd. Looks like private property but could possibly be on an unformed road reserve?

07-Dec-10
Got near to this one and parked the car. Up a grassy hill and we spotted the trig.

04-Dec-10

My Nuvi was doing its best to lead me astray when looking for a GC cache it told me to take the first exit at a roundabout. There was no road only a track through a broken fence line. Happened to look up the hill & spied this Trig. Drove part of the way then walked in the rain but you could drive further. It is on private property so just took a photo from the fence line.
