Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Second one for the early morning start. Seems like such a long time ago. I could only see the top of the trig, so took the photo with the SLR, then got a long shot from closer to town. Will add these to the log when I return home.

While in Victoria for a few weeks holiday (after a MicroAdventure geocaching Event at Kinglake NP) I set about find a range of caches, Waymarks and trig points. Having just found a trig/Waymark last night/this morning, I saw that this 'Unloved trig' was close by, so stopped and asked Julie if it would be okay to take a walk and photograph the 'survey marker' on the hill. All good for a walk up the grassy hill.
At 1015, I found another metal pipe Quadrapod trig, about 3.5 metres tall, with black 'irregular hexagonal' vanes. There is a concrete block beneath it, with a "Triangulation Station, Geodetic Survey Victoria" bronze marker disk; with 73305 stamped onto it. A great view from up here.

Came to this one while out in the area on my motorbike for the day.
This one is on a hilltop in the middle of private property and I was about to give up on it when the farmer who owns the land rode up on his farm bike so I was able to ask his permission. He agreed if I was quick but he did hang around to keep an eye on me and didn't look to happy about it, so I would be careful of trying this one without his say so.
The view from up here is spectacular even with minimal time to enjoy it, your on top of the whole area here.
My thanks to the farmer (I forgot to ask his name)
