Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

I tried to get to this one about a year ago, but foolishly decided to head directly to it and not use the road. I turned back in despair as I was running out of light. Today, I had some more time and parked near the gate, but to the side. I was about 300 metres from the top when some vehicles came towards me. I had to wave the first one down to let them know why I was here and that my car might be in the way. The bloke didn't seem to worry about me being there, but told me of the width of the vehicles that were following him. It all worked out okay. The view from the trig is one of the best I've seen. Simply spectacular. The plate states that the trig is called "Bocoble" as opposed to Triangle Swamp Area. Watch the nettles around the old pin!!!

Saw some communication towers on a hill on the way to Mudgee, and wondered whether there might be a Trig up there? So went back to Aaron's Pass Rd, up Bocoble Rd, then Woorawa Rd to a locked gate which said 'State Water Foreshore Land' (even though it was at least 6km from any water) No less than 15 padlocks on the gate, a new record perhaps? But figured it must be public land, so walked about 1.6km, 1 hour return, along a nicely graded road, and there she was - an amazing Trig with stunning views of Lake Windemere. There is an old stone cairn near it with a large brass pin (watch out for the stinging nettles!). The volcanic cone of Tayan Pic can be seen about 50km to the south-east, and another Trig can just be made out on a hill about 10km to the south-west, Carcalgong Trig maybe? Highly recommended!
