Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself. These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills and this one is no exception, providing unique views just nearby.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself.

After doing some more research on this trig, I found out that the beacon had been removed and placed to the ENE of the large radio tower. The mushroom is still at the posted coordinates.

Found this trig on our last Bruny Island hike. Loved the walk through the rainforest with all of the moss covered rocks - about a 4km return walk, and we ventured a little further along from the trig for some magnificent views too. Sadly the trig is now reclining.

Second attempt at getting here as last time it was closed off due to a helicopter being here. Found the trig although it's no longer standing. TFTTP

out and about with Lil Rafa caching on Bruny Island. done this GC cache 5 years ago nd then the GCA trig appeared so here we are again and in another 5 Years time we'll be back again, such a nice place and there's lots more to see. TFTT TNBPLN trig in a sorry state.

Found with RLD4963. This was a lovely bit of forest to walk through. Upon reaching the top of the hill, it took us a little while to find the sad trig, all bent over. The required photo was taken and then we made our way to the nearby trig where we were treated to some great views.

hi and thanks for the trig.
pity it's been cast aside.
the walk up here was fantastic, albeit a little wet and dwizzley today - so no views from atop.
found today with AlbyDangles on our most enjoyable Bruny escapade, dodging the weather as best we could.
cheers, EPs

This trig was easily found after a lovely walk up the hill.
It's a pity it has been cut down.

Today I was caching with EeePees on Bruny Island. The weather didn't look that great when I left home but turned out to be an ok day.
As usual caching with EeePees was another great day.

This was a great walk to the top with us making good time, all up it took us 88 minutes from car and back, without us phaffing about enjoying ourselves it would have been 20 minutes less, but the time at the top is what caching is all about and well worth it.

How we didnt spot the discarded trig metalwork to start with I dont know but after finding where it used to be we found the rest of it a few minutes later, both of the caches at the top of Mount Mangana were the best I found today, the Flora on the way to the top and the views when I was up there.

Myself and Goose had talked about a Bruny Island trip for a bit now and with the publication of some new caches the other day the trip was brought forward in our caching schedule.
So today I was our of the house before 6am and ready to pick the goose up at 6.15, with a good drive down to the ferry we just made it on to the 7am sailing, being the last car on.
After a full day making our way round the island, getting some nice finds and a few DNF's well not DNF's we gave up on a few before we event got to GZ, we managed to get a space on the 5.30 ferry back and were home before 7 for once Laughing

Thanks to all the CO for the caches.

Its always nice when you do a decent walk like this to have a double win. A cache and a trig. We found where the trig had once stood and then thanks to Swampys note found the poor beacon tossed aside so we photographed both.

It was a toss-up between Bruny Island and Mt Field today. In the end Bruny Island won out, although a few times during the day I muttered ‘should have gone to Mt Field.’
Stainless steel rat picked me at 6.15am with the plan of coffee at the ferry terminal and over on the 7.30am ferry. We arrived a little earlier than expected and drove straight on to the 7am ferry. That was great except we’d not had coffee!
We headed south, once we hit the island, to beat the tourists stopping briefly for Alonnah five-0 for SSR to find, and then at the shop we grabbed coffee and sandwiches from a couple of nutcase women who obviously thought their continued sarcasm was funny. This kind of behaviour happens a lot when I’m out with SSR!
After a bit of investigation of some new caches, we decided a 5km paddle in the blow-up boat was just too much, so made a beeline for the lighthouse at Cape Bruny and from there worked our way back north, catching the 5.30pm ferry back.

After riding over the range this morning, I walked up this afternoon.
A very pleasant walk, and while I was initially disappointed by the views, following the basic track to the nearby GC cache opened up some wonderful vistas.
Thanks

A 10 day trip to Tasmania with a lot more caching then initially expected, but I enjoyed every minute of it! This was one of the many caches I found and enjoyed. Can't wait to get back here and do it all over again, there are so many great places in Tasmania.

Mr W spent Friday doing caches while on a bowling weekend to the island. Found what was left of the trig, which wasn't much. TFTT

Found on a trip up to Mount Mangana with the youngest red tags, who then decided on some shenanigans at GZ ! Laughing
This is always an enjoyable walk which you do not require a high level of fitness for ! Cool
Thanks for the cache, Geocaching Australia ! Very Happy

Blossom and I loved the walk to this trig Very Happy

We really enjoyed the walk up to this trig and the nearby GC cache. The path is not steep and the surrounding forest is lovely. At the top, we followed the directions to the GC cache for amazing views in all directions and then made our way to the trig. I don't think it would be a lot of use these days with so much vegetation hiding it, I wonder how much was cleared in teh old days when it was in use?

This is a really outstanding trig becasue of the walk and the views Very Happy

We were FTF the cache nearby, and we could see the trig from the path, so we took some snaps, and went back down the mountain

04-Nov-11
This was a very enjoyable walk with fantastic forest scenery. The view from the top was rather obstructed, but there were a number of large rocks from which a view could be had. The trig itself is also disappearing in the shrubbery, but I managed to snap a pic or two.

Got the cache and logged it at 1558hrs, 3rd of 5 today. Great walk in and out until I slipped on a footbridge and broke my right thumb on the way out, only 20 meteres from the cachemobile. TFTC and cheers;OldSaint.

Trig is still standing and is visible from the track. Thanks

After finding Swampy's nearby cache, we set out to find the trig point. We bashed our way through the bush to the exact co-ordinates. There, lying on it's side, was the trig point, so we re-erected it.

The Trigpoint itself is long gone since swampy took his photo but the 4 concrete foundation are still there with the angle iron legs poking out slightly where they were cut off. In the pic is most of the madchilli crew sitting on the foundations with solar cells in the background

One thing I've learnt over the last few months, is if you take a photo make sure you have your GPS with you.
This photo was taken the day I placed the cache Solar Cells.
The walk up to the trig is not bad, considering the change in elevation. Once at the top, the view is limited but on a clear day with no wind will make the trip worthwhile.
D/T adjusted.
