Description

Hahaha It's on Trigg Rd... funny that! A Simple driveby Trig you can touch if you reach through the fence near Colac, Victoria. A simple Smiley! :D

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Heading to Warrnambool for a few days. Out and about grabbing the occasional coffee and cache, some waymarks and photos, taking the roads less travelled. Dancing
Does it get any better than travelling this great land of ours? Very Happy

Stopped by to take the obligatory photo now to head into town for a welcome coffee. Smile

Thanks for a chance to stop and stretch the ol' legs. Clapping

#GA2554 - 10:05; After driving down to Melbourne to bring the geostudent and her friend back for uni, Sol de lune flew in to join me for a days caching and the return journey to Canberra. Our plan was to make finds in as many of the dragonZones in which we were yet to make a find as we could. Today it was time to return home to Canberra, but we would be taking the long way home via Colac, Ballarat, Bendigo, Shepparton and a few points in between. The second nice easy roadside trig for the morning. I like not having to climb hills for them! TFTT Geocaching Australia Very HappyClan Cerberus

Easily spotted on the side of the road as we were heading home....the long way.

17-Aug-17
Caching in the area we snapped this trig on our way through. Nothing like a drive by trig.

02-Mar-17
As we drove towards this trig point, we realised that it was located on Triggs Road = most appropriate. The beacon was located quickly. The required photo has been added to the Gallery. Thanks for the cache.

23-Oct-16
It was a quick stop on the drive back to Melbourne and the airport for me, but there is always time for a quick trig point.

25-Oct-14
A nice simple drive by trig in Triggs Road! That's a first! Never heard of any other road named after a trig on it. Wonder if the locals even realise the significance of the name of the road they live on or near. Thanks.

14-May-13

30-Dec-10
I got as close as the fence as the gate was locked today.

Thanks anyway.

Very Happy

15-Oct-10
Found the gate open, so I went inside for a closer look.
The survey disk was very deeply buried in mulch, so there's no money shot.
Good views of the lake which looks much better with water in it.

12-Oct-10
Visited this morning whilst in area for work. A little surprised to see where it was. Good views of the Lake from here.
