Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

While on my way to Eden for a few days stopped here for a break and to visit this trig and the two near by test line marks as well. Some interesting history about Moruya on one of the boards by the cemetery about the quarrying of Granite for the Sydney Harbour Bridge which was on the north side of the river. TFTC.

14-Jun-17
The easiest of the 3 up here to access.
I think Mr Beetle didn't want to come out of hiding for the photograph of this one though.
Lots of whale watchers up here and was surprised to find the little old cemetery near this one. Strange location for a cemetery.
Thanks.

#GA1370 - 12:15; Out on a day trip to the coast with the geohoney and not expecting to do any caching, I didn't bring the GPSr with me. Our first port of call fell through and not wanting to land unexpectedly at a friend's place at lunch time, we decided to do some sightseeing. Headed out to Moruya Heads and grabbed some snaps of the local trigs while I was there, my thumb substituting for a GPSr Think TFTT Geocaching Australia Very HappyClan Cerberus

Found on our trip to Batemans Bay. After having some breakfast, we drove all the way to Moruya Head to get these three trigs. After parking nearby, we bashed through the bush to take a photo of the trig. Nice views around here. TFTC GCA! Clan Cerberus

22-Apr-13
Thought I'd come to Moruya Heads at last and look for this trig which was an easy find. More exciting still was the line of three more trig-like PMs going down the hill. We took pics of all but the last one which was a little hard to get to. Have to get photos off the phone to post here in time.
Didn't realise a GC multi was right here!

26-Jan-13
Out finding the nearby multi. A quick grab a lovely spot to see on Australia day

When I got to the lookout I thought, where is it? Then noticed the path leading to this Trig, hidden just out of view of the car park Doh Guess the scrub has grown up around this one. An interesting area have'nt visited before.

18-Mar-10
This trig point had the black discs still attatched Smile
The last few I found were missing that vital bit.
Not that anyone more that a few metres from the trig could have seen the black discs due to the foilage surrounding the trig Very Happy

This is an easy one to get to and has some interesting history and great ocean views nearby.

22-Feb-10
The trig is a bit hidden from the sights but it is still a great spot. I also saw some other survey marks nearby. Something to do with a 'Test Line'. Albida.

08-Jan-10

13-Oct-09
Located at the mouth of the Moruya River. A drive by. Close to a whale watching platform & an historic cemetery.
