Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

We certainly increased the terrain rating for this one as it was raining and the tracks were rather challenging in the Subaru XV.
Sadly the views were non existent.

A nice drive up to the top in the 4wd and stunning views. TFTTP!

The gate was open, although there was a "Road Closed" sign that we just happened not to see, so up we went. The road is pretty rough, so I wouldn't suggest that anything other than a high-clearance 4WD attempt this one.
After a short search for the GC cache here, I ventured up the stairs for the trig and a spectacular view all around. What a stunning vista!!!!!!!!!
Highly recommended for everyone to get here to view the countryside.

1145 After shredding a rear tyre on the way, I stopped at the gate that I had to stop at last time and changed it for the spare.
Front-wheel drive Mazda Metro is not the ideal way to attack the road up!
Had a quick look for the Fire-tower cache first up, then got another photo of the trig (daylight this time)

This trig and view is probably the best one in the district. A must do and what is better - the gate is now open and it is an easy drive up.

Having downloaded all those trig points a couple of weeks ago I thought I'd better go and find one Very Happy
May as well make a really good one too !!!
I think I succeeded Razz

The views the Mt Comboyne Trig Station on a sunny day are spectacular in all 360 degrees.
This is the highest point for many, many miles and the views stretch from the coast to the high ranges to the west.

I left the geomobile at the not locked today gate and ambled up the steep trail to the top.
The top of this peak has such good visibility it doesn't need a fire tower, just a fire hut Smile

I took the mandatory pictures of the views, had a refreshing drink and then got to working out how to get a photo of yours truly and the trig point.

All up, a delightful forest drive and excellent walk to the best view you will see in this area.
