Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Smittengranny talked me into a little 4WD trip through the forested areas around here. I should have known it was about grabbing caches. This was one of them.

TG47 and I had a great time driving 4WD tracks through the forest area only to discover a much simpler road on the way back down to Mt Beauty. We holiday there every year on this joint long weekend between Victoria and ACT. Each year we snak away from our friends for a while to grab some more caches. This year it was on our way to and from Porepunkah where we visit relatives. DancingDancing

Started at Bathurst bright and early for a bit of a trip down south, have a few trigs picked up to go after, got a relaxing trip as have to be back home on Saturday see how far I can go & how many trigs I can get photos of on the trip. This was the ninth stop on the third day was a trig called Clear Spot a nice drive for the Juke AWD & what a great name for a trig and took the required photo. Thanks for the trig Geocaching Australia. Geocaching has taken me to the wildest parts. Clan PhoenixClan Phoenix

Had the morning to myself, so I drove the AWD up slowly. A 2WD could do it. Still trying to find the photo of the memorial that the local town built. Could not find the survey plate that another cacher has found. It's about 22m from the table when heading for the tower...

Fabulous view from up here. We made this harder than 2/2 D/T by coming up the 4WD track.
Thanks Geocaching Australia.

Grabbing a cache here and a Trig. Drove right to it. Walked 2 metres. Nice sunset and amazing views.

Thanks Geocaching Australia. TFTTrig CoolClan Phoenix

Came for a cache, and noticed that there was a 'trig' nearby. Didn't see it, until I hunted around with the torch.
Typical of the survey marks under the Victorian 'quadrapod' trigs.

The girls dropped me off near where I left the reservoirs yesterday, with a full load of water on board, as it was shaping up to be a warm one (I believe it reached 34°). I think it's the first time we've taken the CR-V onto the dirt for any length of time.

By the time I reached the trig point atop Clear Spot a couple of hours later, I'd gained 500m in altitude, and was sweating buckets after negotiating a few steep grades. It's possible to drive an ordinary vehicle here, but not the way I came. I definitely added a star or two to the terrain rating this afternoon with my choice of route.

All that sweat was well worth the fantastic view of the valleys from here, though. Thanks, Geocaching Australia.

Beautiful spot. Used to come up here all the time when I was a kid living in Bright. Great clear views f the snow covered alps today.

I drove up to approx 300m away not realising I could have continued to the top from the other side.

Walked the rest

Great views.

FTF of this trig point, and a wonderful view from the spot, showing the town of Bright, Mt Buffalo, Mt Porepunkah, Mt Bogong, Mt Feathertop, The Twins, Mt Hotham - need I go on!! The drive up was a bit rugged but the 2WD was capable of the task.
