Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

After what I had on in the morning today, I found myself with a free afternoon. So at 12:30pm, I headed off to Young, the long way. What I meant by the long way is out via Harden, Galong and Boorowa before heading into Young. Why, you might ask... because there is a NEW cache in Galong and a possible FTF up for grabs. Before I get to GZ of that cache, I needed to take a photo for the Trig which has been on the to-do-list for quite sometime. After the photo was taken, I headed to GZ of the new cache. When I arrived at GZ I was very surprised with the location as you would need to be a local to know about it. Time to search and after about climbing blindly to try and find the cache, I headed back down to the bottom of the to have a rethink. That's when I noticed something odd and shortly after I had the CIH. The only question left to answer was, is it a FTF. YES IT WAS! Big Grin Then it was signed at 1:58pm in the FTF spot and returned to its hiding spot ready for the next finder. Now time to head to Young for a little bit of shopping. TFTC and TFTTP Big Grin

This being private property I also took the long shot. I had tried to photograph the trig from two different roads. The trig stands next to a cross. It was late evening when my photograph was taken. TFTC.

I tried to get to this one from two different sides, but could not find a way through without going onto private property. With that, I will just go with the long shot.

Made the climb to the top of Rosary Hill with Tealby on Day 3 of the 65+km St Clements Way Walk - great views from the top. Public access is available from the grounds of the Monastery via the Stations of the Cross tree lined walk, bottom of gully immediatley behind the Monastery - signposted with small white boards from there but use the white painted stiles provided and leave gates as you found them (ie open or shut) - once you spy the trig and a large cross on top of the hill you should be fine to find your way. Thanks for alerting us to this one Tealby.

Completed the walk up to the top of Rosary Hill and was rewarded with a trig find. It is a 4km return walk from the monastery with a couple of stiles to cross and gates to go through - the route is marked in places, but might be challenging if you don't know where you're going. Fortunately I had 2BluFish with me to lead the way. I completed this at the end of a 3 day walk from Yass - a total of 65+km as part of the St Clements Way pilgrim walk. Lots of fun, staying at the Binalong Pub along the way. I left a munzee on the trig to celebrate. Now time to have a rest!

Found this as a visual from the roadside outside the gate of a property called rockview.. This one is clearly well inside private property.
