Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

I've been conditioned very well to have my neurons fire whenever I see one of these trig points, so I snapped a quick pic after a stroll up to the top of One Tree Hill!

With the sky cloudy, but no rain forecast, I decided a walk up One Tree Hill was long overdue. I spaced out my caching so I had something to distract me on the way back. I only failed at one, but a few were quite a challenge to locate. I saw an echidna looking for ants on the trail and the view from the top was well worth the climb, even if the main trail was not too much of a challenge.

I found this trip on a recent hike along the CCT trail

Thanks
Albida

I have been up here a few times, both walking with a Meetup group, and by myself (finding CCT caches)... have probably taken a selfie, ready Ti log this, a couple if other times. but then never remembered to log... was here on another walk... with a smaller group than expected... took another selfie, then we headed back for coffee... now logging (before I forget again!) while wandering around Hall capturing Munzees... lol
is a bit windy up there, as seems to be usual, but as always - a nice walk and a good view Smile

Geocaching Australia (GCA) Cache Find Number 1115 - 10914 overall cache finds.

Found during a run up here today. While I mainly looked for GC caches, when an easy GCA cache comes along we go for that as well. Trigs are particularly nice to track down and find. I was very happy when they became part of the GCA cache family. Its especially satisfying if you have made a big climb up for one ! I have also now joined dragonZone in Clan Cerberus, so there are more reasons to find those GCA caches. Its interesting to find the many different types of trigs. From the traditional metal legs and vanes, to the concrete base with vanes, to the ones on top of water tanks (especialy the red ones !), as well the new CORS type. When you look on a GCA map and see all those hundreds and hundreds of blue 'Z's it shows just how many there are out there. Shame so many are on private property and cannot be accessed at all. So as far as I'm concerned every trig that can be found and photographed is a real bonus !

The trig was quickly 'found'. Piccie taken and posted. More stunning views !

Thanks Geocaching Australia !

Out for a walk along the Centenary Trail with FurfacesLL today and we took the required shots of this one while up top. The storms were rolling in just as we reached this one so we did not stay here too long as the storms were full of lightening.

Thanks for the Trig find Geocaching Australia Very Happy

#GA186 - 16:20; After a morning working around the house and then a little shopping, the weather looked too good to pass up the chance to head out along the trail to try and knock of three of my 10 closest to home GC caches, plus this one. Unable to round up a posse, I headed off solo after the geohoney dropped me at the end of Carrington Road. Climbed through an old fence and then I was off along the trail. Passed by a couple of mountain bikers heading in the opposite direction, but that was about it. After the number of people out and about on Mt Ainslie yesterday, thought I might have encountered a few more along this stretch of trail today. After bagging the first of three, I kept going on towards this one. Took about 45 minutes, but was grateful for what looks like some recent work to put steps along the trail which now snakes up the hill to the lookout at GZ. Took the sanp, logged the GC cache and then it was back straight down the hill for the last cache on the hit list and the end of a pleasant afternoon stroll Dancing TFTC Geocaching Australia Clapping

Finally got around to doing the new Centenary trail from Hall up to One Tree Hill. Took about 50 minutes to cover the 4.6 Km walk. Great views.

Hooray finally got to this one. A great view from this trig well worth the visit

10-Nov-13
Found during the cold November Rain. Unfortunately on the way up here, the camera ran out of battery so we couldn't take a photo. Trust me, I was there. A very nice area on a well constructed path, despite the rain. TFTC GCA!

Most unlike me, to climb a hill and remember to take a picture of the Trig and my equipment......Just like I forgot to up Mt Gingera last week!

27-Oct-13
Went to check this important place out on the opening day of the trail. A great spot!

27-Oct-13
Grabbed this one today whilst leading a walking group to the top. Ran into Tealby and Pacmania on the trail.

27-Oct-13
Ah - two listings for the same trig! - OK - I have archived the wrong one (TP6588).

27-Oct-13
This trig appears to have been duplicated by a later listing (TP6588), which caused me much confusion!
This trig is well worth the visit - you can check out the new trail all the way to the trig - approx 4km on a well formed new trail from Hall, then 500m rough track up the hill to the trig, adjacent to the new lookout that has been constructed. Also saw Tankengine (on bike) and Jusojara (in scouting regalia) on the trail today. A great day out. Cheers!

27-Oct-13
With the opening of the Centenary Trail this trig is now accessible. Take the trail from Hall approx 4km, then there is a rough path (marked) up the hill to the newly constructed One Tree Hill lookout, adjacent to the fire watch tower and trig point - well worth a visit.

15-Dec-12
Chooo ooo *FTF* on a very rainy day! (I got soaked). Not only that - but great to see that an OFFICIAL path to this location is available now!

As the trigpoint is on private property, we'll archive this cache.

02-Nov-09
At the moment this trigpoint is still on private land.

Last time I spoke to the farmer over a year ago, he had concerns about bushwalkers and wasn't happy with general access.

Maybe recent town planning might change access issues in the future.
