Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Had a couple of Adventure Labs on my radar today but then detoured via some back roads letting my GPS be my guide. Back in the area again as I head towards Warrnambool to visit family.
Thanks for the Trig Point (and waymark) and for bringing me here. Clapping

Just when I thought I was going to miss out on finding a Trig Point today. I found a driveby. lol
Sadly this one now resembles a tripod. It looks as though a motorist has collected the leg nearest the road.
This leg is now laying down at the base of the trigpoint. *Needs Maintenance*
Two for one.

#GA2553 - 09:35; After driving down to Melbourne to bring the geostudent and her friend back for uni, Sol de lune flew in to join me for a days caching and the return journey to Canberra. Our plan was to make finds in as many of the dragonZones in which we were yet to make a find as we could. Today it was time to return home to Canberra, but we would be taking the long way home via Colac, Ballarat, Bendigo, Shepparton and a few points in between. This was the first stop for the morning and I quickly had the required snaps I needed as Sdl had been here before. TFTT Geocaching Australia Very HappyClan Cerberus

This is my very first trig point. Came across it on our way home from an afternoon drive along the great ocean road. Me and geo boyfriend had a wonderful day, seeing an echidna, feeding the birds at kennet river, seeing sleepy koalas, watching a kangaroo hop along the dirt road and grab some caches on the way.

I'd just been to the Barwon Park homestead for the Geelong Military Reenactment Group's Gallipoli performance and was doing a few caches on the way home. While driving along, this trig caught my eye, so I stopped to get the mandatory pic.

Thanks GCA

We knew from our planning that this trig point was on our planned route but we didn't realise how accessible it was. We are able to complete the necessary requirements in a very short time and continue with our trip down the road to the Otways. The required photo has been added to the Gallery.
