Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Can be accessed by continuing on from the cache 'The Vision of Trees....GC1PE13' or from off Hinds Mill road. The latter turns off Asbestos road at S41 09.444 E146 43.211 near the boom gate...then take the next right at S41 09.219 E146 42.861....then the next right at S41 08.575 E146 41.486 which will lead you to the ridge top and a short distance along another track to the cairn.

Did this as part of a 25km loop walk on a fine autumn day. Came in from Narawantapu visitors centre car park across Spring Lawn and then along fire trails via Point Vision. The trig was a short detour off our walk which then continued on via some off track ridge walking before picking up the old track down to the coastal track to Badgers Beach. Thence a nice stroll back to the car.

After checking out Google Earth Mr T decided to attack this trig and Vision of Trees cache by riding his mountain bike from a boom gate located off Bowens Rd. He turned off Bowens Rd at S41 10.580 E146 42.060 and parked at the boom gate S41 10.046 E146 41.175. From there he rode the bike turning left at the T junction S41 08.892 E146 40.751 (Dazzler Briggs Link Track)continued on to Y junction S41 08.569 E 146 41.472 turned left and straight to Trig point. He rode all the way bar the last pinch at the top. Total return trip 4 hrs. Geodogs worn out, good workout for one and all.

We walked in from Hinds Mill Rd and the walk certainly tested our fitness and commitment. We went with the intention of trying to locate GC1PE13 Vision Of trees and this cache. There were some very steep sections. Interesting range of wildlife on the way, especially of the small lizard/skink type. There were also a couple of interesting flowers (most had finished blooming) and a very large toadstool with interesting patterns on top. We had (unjustified) expectations that the stone cairn would be something like that at Mt Direction but is was less elaborate and in a stage of falling apart. The round trip, including this cache, took about 4.5 hours in ideal conditions, the diviersion for this cache only taking 1.0 hours.

Just like the last few finders I came in from the Asbestos Road side. Rode the MTB up to grab 'Vision' then across to the trig point.

22-Oct-10
Done as a side trip while coming back from Vision of Trees.
Quads were screaming with pain but I made it in the end.

Google Earth told me it would be a shorter walk from Badges Head Road, however the track I wanted to take was located behind a locked gate and barbed wire fence. I backtracked a bit and took the track leading up from Hinds Marsh Road. Although much further to walk, it got me there!

I kept up a reasonable pace and was back at the car within 2 1/2 hours, including a couple of stops to catch my breath and take a few photos.

Thanks sirius for the directions - at least I knew that I'd get there eventually!

Discription and walking co-ords spot on. No views from the top but still a nice walk on a formed road. Thanks

Coming in via Hinds Mill road is quite a climb...don't forget to take water as there is none once you leave the creeks near the start. The trig is a large cairn of some 3m diam. and 1.5m high but the surrounding trees have now obscured what would have been a great view. Intermittent views are still available from the ridge top along the way.
Another great walk(around 3hrs return).... enjoyed by geopooch as well...really loving these trig caches....many thanks GCA...another ripper...Cheers.
