Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Forget the garlic people !!
No vampires here,
and garlic doesn't keep witches away Shocked

So as I headed up this majestic peak,
all 43 metres of it,
I was definitely not witch-proof Razz

Up top,
next to the giant metal tumbleweed,
I found a trig point Cool

TFTTP ...
... and don't forget to bring oxygen for this high altitude trig Very Happy

#GA1957 - 11:10; Day four of a caching mission to Victoria with Sol de lune. After a big day on the road yesterday going from Creswick to Mount Gambier and back, the plan for today is a more leisurely drive to Learmonth, St Arnaud, Wycheproof then through Beulah to Brim for some silo art and on to Warracknabeal and home again via Ararat. We reached Wycheproof and just had to visit the little mountain. Bagging a trig and a nearby GC cache were bonuses! TFTT Geocaching Australia Very HappyClan Cerberus

At the end of a tiring day, it was great to be able to drive right up to this trig point. The views in the late afternoon winter's sun were quite spectacular. Two photos have been added to the Gallery: the survey vanes with one of us and our GPS; the survey button with our GPS.

We had no caches or WP loaded in the cache because we were going home a totally different way and made a quick decision to change.
Even so, the sight of a hill in the rapidly fading light was a good indicator that a TP might be on offer.
Sure enough, Trig Point found at the end of the track. Not much of a view in the dark, though.

26-Sep-10
Found by Team Ladava in transit home from a family wedding in northern Victoria.
Wonderful panoramic Springtime views from gz with nothing but lovely green cops and golden canola as far as the eye can see after a wonderfully wet winter.
The Mallee is looking magnificent this year with many crops well above fence height.
Our thanks to c@w and Geocaching Australia for the cache and giving us a reason to break the journey with a drive to the top of the 'World's Smallest Mountain'.
Cheers
