Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

Official Code: TS5852
Official Name: TG 84

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

came up here with six other geocachers while looking for about 10 caches on the south and east sides of Tuggeranong Hill.

It was nice to tick this trig off my list today when out caching on Tuggeranong Hill.

#GA5732 - 09:55; I was invited to join some fellow cachers for a Tour de Tuggeranong Hill today when I attended an event yesterday. All up seven intrepid cachers set off up the hill today collecting a few caches on the way up and again on the way down. It was nice to get this trig off the "to do" list at long last! It's also some 20 months since the last log too! TFTT Geocaching Australia Very HappyClan Cerberus

After a better night sleep at Condor I am ready for the important day. Hopefully the weather is going to be better than the last few days. Into Namadgi today for an event and a walk. This will put me on 20000 !! Woohoo, good milestone that I am proud of. After that caching my way home for a good night sleep in a bed.

Headed up Tuggeranong Hill for some Tankengine caches on top, and snapped a photo with this trig to claim a find here too! A great trig and views Smile

First ever trig find. I was here looking for GC and saw the trig, so thought, why not, and here we are

What a climb! Great view.

Went for the long shot as my knees told it was not going to happen this visit.

Found 7:00pm. I had set off with the girlfriend late this afternoon to do some geocaches. I've seen this Trig from afar a number of times and finally got around to taking the challenge. Unfortunately on the way discovered the girlfriend hadn't brought the right footwear but she bravely and stoicly struggled up the hill and reached the top after a couple of deviations along the way to do some other caches. The view is spectacular up here but it is quite a climb. I am a little frustrated that I don't have the coords for a nearby puzzle as I am thinking its probably in this area somewhere. So it looks like another climb in the future down the track. After arriving here and taking the obligatory photos the girlfriend waited while I went off to look for the nearby geocache. Upon my return we set off down the hill unfortunately a little later she did a slide and fall when losing the footing on loose soil on the way down.

F(H)ound It!

From the top of this hill one can sit and admire all those lovely peaks in Namadji. Nice views and lots of little wild flowers today.

I visited this hill with Trodectus and Goldenwattle while completing a nearby multicache. TFTC.

22-Feb-17
Having climbed to the top of this peak many times I thought it might be time to claim it as a find.

29-Oct-16
A good bit of exercise. Pretty views, on the way up and from the top.

11-Sep-16
Great views

28-Aug-16
Walked up with a 'Meet up' group organized by DarkSideDan today. We enjoyed the walk and the views with a couple of cachers and some muggles before heading back down the hill to grab some of the local caches. Beaut walk, great views and good company. TFTT Surprised

It's all about the Trig, and Paris Bear.
Good walk from Christmas St, around the back of the two knolls, before ascending up to the trig. Quite a steep climb. Good views over the valley. Descended and returned via the back of the houses, and inspected the indigenous axe carving stones, plus grabbed the nearby cache.
Thanx GA for including Trigs as loggables.

24-Jul-15
I was bored with hanging around the house so despite poor weather I walked up to this one from the Theodore substation. I wasn't quick enough with the camera when the wedgetail flew by. The photo shows me at the trig with the TV tower behind almost disappearing in the fog.

16-Oct-13
Came up here with Nemo while travelling around the area. It was very muddy on the way up so we had to push the bikes but on the way down we did a bit of a bush-bash ride that almost turned out pretty badly.

05-May-13
Found with blossom* when we took a nice walk up this hill

05-May-13
We had a look about for a nice walk in ACT and Tuggeranong Hill got the job Very Happy As others say, the views are tops and a nice trig at the top is a bonus.

24-Nov-12
Found after a long long walk up the hill catching the power trail series as we went. Great view from up here and a rewarding experience overall.

29-Jul-12
We did a trail of caches up the hill, and with a bit of a sweet incentive, the kids made it to the top. The views from here are certainly worth the effort to get here!

Glad we made the effort to come all the way to the top, and now off for an ice cream reward for our efforts. Cheers!

20-Jul-12
Awesome winters day to head up the hill..Got pic at top. Trust me GPS is in other hand to camera ..lol

03-Jun-12
Found at end of Powertrail. Couldn't take photo holding the GPS, because I the camera and gps are on my iPhone - LOL. So I've got a photo of the GeoKid and her uncle hanging from the trig. Great to reach the top, and fabulous views. I don't know why we haven't gone to the top before this.

The tenth day of our excursion out of Tasmania touring from Melbourne to Canberra and return via Gippsland was marked by the best weather for caching. No rain, not even a chance of rain, some clouds but plenty of blue sky and a very light breeze which did not have a hint of the bitter cold of previous days. We started the day tracking down the cache for the Hobart to Canberra Great Aussie Icon Hunt and then we spent the rest of the day in the Tuggeranong area, some of the time in the hills. We had a great days caching.

It took us sometime to find the best way to access Tuggeranong Hill - our GPS wanted to take us on a very circuitous route including along roads which did not exist. So it was trial and error to get to the starting point. About 50 minutes after starting the walk and with numerous stops along the way to search for caches, we got to the top of Tuggeranong Hill. The views all round made the climb to the top worthwhile. Even better was the fact that there was no breeze at all - time to get jumpers off. The obligatory photo had been added to the Gallery.

25-Mar-12
Took a "selfy" while up here hunting for some GC caches. Great views.

Tackled this Trig doing the Powertrail, was a pleasant surprise to find a Powertrail cache here as well Smile Some good views from here, even if a bit overrun with thistles.

03-Oct-11
Been up here a few times when living in Theodore for a year back in the early 90s. A nice walk to the top grabbing a number of GC and GCA caches in order to get this trig. Great views. The landscape down south of here has certainly changed with the urbanisation of the area. Photo to follow once I get it off the mobile phone (camera battery was flat - DOH!)

06-Aug-11
The first time we came up Tuggeranong Hill we came straight up the side, and it seemed almost vertical on a hot steamy day. Today the weather was far different - rainy and very misty. No views from the top, but tempted by the power trail to come up the trail accessing the top, we found it a lot easier to day.

12-Jul-11
Found after doing lots of caches on the nearby powertrail. Cool views. Thanks. Cool

23-Jun-11
Hooray!.
100th GCA find.
Yesterday was a great day to hide inside. Today is one day past the shortest day of the year and the weather is noticeably better. Wink

Sam thinks this is good fun.

21-May-11
Woke up to a beautiful morning so so grabbed Jac and headed for a hill to grab a cache or two.

Thanks for the Trig

30-Apr-11
I did another wander up to this trig today with Secret Squirrel and decided it was worth a photo and a trig find.

14-Apr-11
This required a small quantity of sweat. Good view though.

11-Apr-11
238. Brought up here by a power-trail and the views are some of the best on offer for such a shortish walk - less than 3 km all up. Also managed to find an as yet unpublished cache very close by. Now to head back down past the PCL work crew who appear to have finished trimming trees for the afternoon. Lotsa prickly stuff as can be seen in the photo.

TFTC and the one that could.

27-Mar-11
We grabbed Jims God-son Kieryn to go caching and had completed a few nearby. Decided at the last minute to continue up the hill as Kieryn had never been up here before. Good workout as we followed the trail up, then rewarded by fantastic views from the top. TFTT Smile

15-Mar-11
After finding a few futher down the hill, decided to head up and grab this trig. Haven't been right to the trig before, so nice to finally get here and make the find.

13-Mar-11
Found after completing the tuggeranong hill power trail.

GCA 50 - 3500 - Catching up on logging some GCA Trig 'finds'...

I certainly remember this trig - the walk up to find Tuggeranong's Top on 11 Sep 2008 was very nice and rewarding. .

TFTC !!

06-Dec-10
Walked up from the new one towards the bottom of the track, nice hike on a warm day.

13-Nov-10
Finally found it... Well, I've actually been up here lots of times, but today was the first time I took a photo of the trig! Fantastic views!

11-Nov-10
I can see this trig point VERY clearly from my house, and it was finally not raining, so why not go for a walk?

I took the fire trail up. Almost killed me. >.<
I'm really not that great with walking up massive hills (note. pretty much anything larger than the hills in calwell is MASSIVE in my books. haha!)
Not to mention, i had a red bull, and a cold. That was not a smart idea. Oh, and i left my water bottle in the car. Whoops. Sad

But i finally got there. and what a view. Smile

04-Oct-10
an afternoon walk up Tugg. Hill to tick off another notable hill in ACT and to take geodog for a walk, took the main path to the top.
The views are pretty good, with uninterrupted vistas of most of the south side of Canberra.
thanks

07-Aug-10
I live nearby so I just walked up with my dad. Just about killed us. Brick Wall Thanks Dancing

22-Oct-09
Another beauty view - plenty kangaroos - everywhere at top... Thanks.

18-Oct-09
Found this trig point on a day of caching on the 2/12/08 TFTC

05-Oct-09
Done as part of a 16 km caching trek. Great views. Plenty of nearby caches.

05-Oct-09
In the spirit of previously visited spots I was here on 13/2/09. Albida

22-Sep-09
*FTF* Have been up here many many times, riding and running and chasing nearby caches, but rather than rely on those visits I decided to go up here again, (a) to find this trig point, and MORE IMPORTANTLY (b) to have an exhilirating ride down, Cooeeeeeeeee.

Views not much this afternoon due to the heavy dust storm, but I know its fantastic.

I really support the introduction of TrigPoint "caches" because there are usually great views from such highpoints and it is particularly applicable in certain parks.

When I first started caching, I often didn't carry a camera, and visited many trigs whilst caching.

However, whether the thought police like it or not, I intend to claim every trig that I visited since starting caching at the beginning of 2007. As evidence, I will either post the photo if I have one, or reference the cache that I visited nearby, or name another cacher who can vouch for me being there.

I visited this trig when finding Tankengine's "Tuggeranong's Top" back on 5 May 2007. Amazing view
