Description
A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.
Official Code: TS5852
Official Name: TG 84
A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.
Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.
These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.
To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.
The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.
Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.
If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

From the top of this hill one can sit and admire all those lovely peaks in Namadji. Nice views and lots of little wild flowers today.
Ridgeo-pup pic attached:
Good walk from Christmas St, around the back of the two knolls, before ascending up to the trig. Quite a steep climb. Good views over the valley. Descended and returned via the back of the houses, and inspected the indigenous axe carving stones, plus grabbed the nearby cache.
Thanx GA for including Trigs as loggables.
Glad we made the effort to come all the way to the top, and now off for an ice cream reward for our efforts. Cheers!

It took us sometime to find the best way to access Tuggeranong Hill - our GPS wanted to take us on a very circuitous route including along roads which did not exist. So it was trial and error to get to the starting point. About 50 minutes after starting the walk and with numerous stops along the way to search for caches, we got to the top of Tuggeranong Hill. The views all round made the climb to the top worthwhile. Even better was the fact that there was no breeze at all - time to get jumpers off. The obligatory photo had been added to the Gallery.
100th GCA find.
Yesterday was a great day to hide inside. Today is one day past the shortest day of the year and the weather is noticeably better.
Sam thinks this is good fun.
Thanks for the Trig
TFTC and the one that could.
I certainly remember this trig - the walk up to find Tuggeranong's Top on 11 Sep 2008 was very nice and rewarding. .
TFTC !!
I took the fire trail up. Almost killed me. >.<
I'm really not that great with walking up massive hills (note. pretty much anything larger than the hills in calwell is MASSIVE in my books. haha!)
Not to mention, i had a red bull, and a cold. That was not a smart idea. Oh, and i left my water bottle in the car. Whoops.
But i finally got there. and what a view.
The views are pretty good, with uninterrupted vistas of most of the south side of Canberra.
thanks
Views not much this afternoon due to the heavy dust storm, but I know its fantastic.
Popped by again on 30/4/2011
I really support the introduction of TrigPoint "caches" because there are usually great views from such highpoints and it is particularly applicable in certain parks.
When I first started caching, I often didn't carry a camera, and visited many trigs whilst caching.
However, whether the thought police like it or not, I intend to claim every trig that I visited since starting caching at the beginning of 2007. As evidence, I will either post the photo if I have one, or reference the cache that I visited nearby, or name another cacher who can vouch for me being there.
I visited this trig when finding Tankengine's "Tuggeranong's Top" back on 5 May 2007. Amazing view
