Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps. They also be an added incentive to geocachers/waymarkers when placing geocaches.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Clan MinotaurClan MinotaurClan Minotaur one of several trigs we found whilst exploring the area. Very nice walk to the point and excellent views at the lookout Clan MinotaurClan MinotaurClan Minotaur

What a pretty little place. I came here for the headland views and got a trig while I was at it. Obviously another redundant one as its surrounded by trees and vines and whatnot, except where the path goes directly past it to the lookout.

I sat at the lookout for a while looking out. There was a fishing boat out there, probably charter, and it was like the captain had placed the boat at just the right angle to get their passengers sick. It was rocking side to side quite violently on the waves. Or maybe side to side makes you less sick than front to back rocking. Who knows. Either way, it was rocking like a harcore fan at their fave band's concert. Snapped my required pic with said boat in background.

I didn't know about the usually blocked waterway to the south. It looked a bit dreamy from the lookout. Being Saturday and hot it was busy with people splashing about at the mouth. If I could guarantee I could park and turn my caravan closer to it I would have joined them, but I couldn't, so I didn't, because I was feeling lazy and didn't want to walk the 500m there from where I was parked. Hahaha. I'll just have to return to experience that another time, although there's a chance the bar will be closed when I return.

8 years unloved.... I did wonder how the access would be - but it was a formed path, right to the trig, the trig is in the middle of the path actually. We didn't see any whales but did check out the volcanic beach, its pretty cool. Worth a visit.....

Doing a few caches in the area today I decided to find this Trig point as well (Geoson will not be pleased as he likes to do Trigs also).
I came across quite a few scrub turkeys as I made my way to GZ and located the Trig.

While looking for the other cache in the area we found this on the way back to the car park.I had with me a Surveyor friend that I was showing what we do and he was happy to explain how this works.
I was not sure it was posted on this website so I took a fix anyway.
Great view from surrounds but you would need to do a bit of clearing if you need to use this trig again.

Very nice walk up from the carpark through the bush that obviously doesn't get a lot of visitors. Another trig point that these days is totally useless to surveyors and the like!

We were there at 11.20am. We have been to this point a few years ago and it was such a pleasure to be back on such a beautiful day. The surf was rolling in along the edge of the point and the locals were having a lot of fun.

1616 Out to check on the nearby cache, Wallabi by the Saltwater, GC1GDB, that my younger son has. Got photo of the trig again, with me.
There was a few whales in the distance towards Cape Hawke.
Directions per Norkmeister will get you there, just remember to wear a cap/helmet, as there are a lot of low hanging branches on the way.

Visited this trig and added it to waymarking.com. No GPSr in the picture unfortunately since I was using it (my phone) to take the picture. The best way to get there is to find the path at the end of the reserve labelled "walkway". After about 20 or so metres the path forks, take the right hand fork even if it looks like it goes nowhere. If you take the left hand fork this leads to a set of steps heading down towards the rock pools and you have gone too far. A few metres down the correct pathway you will find a sign indicating the Mick Tuck trail heading to the left. Follow this this circuitous pathway throug the scrub to the trig.
