Description

Kiama TS5622

Official name of this Trig Station as per NSW Department of Lands is: Kiama.

Serial number is: TS5622.

Last Inspected on: December 19, 1983.

Elevation is: 24 metres.

Right next to one of the South Coast's best known attraction, the Kiama Blowhole, this Trig is well worth the visit for the scenery alone.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

I found this one purely by chance when we were here on holidays seeing the sights.
This is a great spot, loved the Blowhole, fantastic beaches, nice town, should have come here a long time ago.

Driving home from a weekend away in Jervis Bay I decided to do the coast road and take wifey to the blowhole. Not much action in the water but picked up a few trigs and visuals so worth the stop. Only trouble was getting out as there was a concert going on in town and the place was packed!

I was in Kiama for another geocaching mission when I came across a couple of GCA caches. happy to put a smiley to them.

Visiting the coast to move one daughter here and visit another for Christmas. Came down to the harbour this morning to go for a dip in the pool. Daughter we are moving here wanted to show me one of the places she has a job interview for which happened to be up here so whilst hubby was checkingout the blowhole I quickly grabbed a couple of photos.

Great spot to stop and have a look around. I have been here many times and it is always popular with the tourists and today was no different. I grabbed two in the one photo and didn't even need to turn my GPS on. TFTC.

Came for a drive down to Kiama and whike in the area before lunch had a walk around to the blowhole. It was busy down here as it was a public holiday in NSW. There were constant cars going passed looking for spaces walked around till I got a view of the trig & the lighthouse together. Waited for the muggles to get out of the shot. Thanks for the trig

Found on an adventurous day out at the Blowhole.

Wasn't blowing too much when we got there but after a nice lunch we returned and then saw some pretty good action.

Parked right next to this one so didn't have to go too far.

0930 On my way further south I stopped off in Kiama, which I hadn't been into for a few years. While I had seen the blowhole a few times as a child I don't remember the trig point being there - but is just as likely to have been placed there in the early 1970s, as it is of the same style of many others from the Central Mapping Authority of that time.
Easy to find - 0930. And no tourists around it, but rather they were down at the blowhole.

01-Oct-15
We were on our way back from the Pigeon House mountain and the kids needed a break, so what is better than to go for a stroll in Kiama and visit the blowhole?

29-Jul-15
A nice easy trig here and some great views up and down the coast.

18-Jul-15
#GA638 - 09:55; Sol de lune and I had discussed a wild trig hunt in the Illawarra quite a while ago and today was the day we tried to bring home the bacon. We had picked up a couple already on the hill and then further along. We had now made it to the coast and the Kiama Lighthouse. After a snap at the lighthouse, it was then a short walk for me to grab this nearby trig too and get some shots of the blow hole in action as a bonus. Came to the Kiama trig couple today with the MajuraHathi party and lots of other visitors. We would see well off to the north across Bass Point and beyond. There were fishing bots bobbing about and the famous Kiama Blowhole was blowing and grumbling!
Thanks for featuring this trig.
Cheers

Got a bit confused at GZ as an X on the road just like Knights Hill Trig, however the trig was pretty obvious. It has a nice view here Very Happy Blowhole nearby was going but nothing special.

Find: Kiama Trig, Kiama, NSW
17:10 12/11/2010

This is my first Geocaching find. Funny thing is that I have been coming to this area for over 15 years. Very nice spot. To top it off, there was a whale and calf playing in the water about 500m off the coast just after logging this Trig. What a prize! Geocaching and this Trig have been right under my nose for so long...

24-Oct-10
Found at 12:50 while on a caching trip from Adelaide. Wet and windy today, but couldn't resist the opportunity to do an easy TP.

28-Aug-10
Came with the family to Kiama to attend the Farmers Market. Once the shopping and eating was completed, we headed up to show the kids the blowhole. And it was blowing! They loved it. Despite being banned from doing any caching on the trip, I slipped in the trig. No disc on top? Great spot.

24-Apr-10
had two geokids by myself in woolongong today, so we spent the day around the blowhole, unfourtunately I am still working out my GSAK and didn't have any caches in my GPS besides trig points. DAMN! but I had a distraction free day with my babies, drawing and swimming in the nearby rock pools. unfortunately someone had turned the blowhole off today.

18-Apr-10
Had to pop by here to see the trig, the light house and the big blow hole. Great place to visit. Unfortunately my wife's photography was poor and burnt out the trig photo but here is a successful one of her photos with me and the Kiama Lighthouse instead.

25-Nov-09
A beautiful afternoon to be outdoors, and a quick detour through Kiama to one of my favourite spots, and a trig I have never really paid attention to before. Not that I really needed an excuse to visit.

29-Sep-09
Indeed a beautiful spot at the south coast! enjoy the lighthouse and the blowhole! I went by bike but a car you can park almost beside the trig point!.
