Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Clan MinotaurClan MinotaurClan Minotaur One of several trigs we found whilst exploring the area. A drive by trig in a beautiful location Clan MinotaurClan MinotaurClan Minotaur

So I did return. For 2 nights. I recommend going for a walk on the breakwall section with the bridge just before the tide turns (which is about an hour after it technically has) especial at new moon. The waters gushing through under the bridge is something to see and watching it turn. One local called it NSW's Horizontal Falls. Haha.

Also, here's a sunrise trig compilation for you from this morning.

I have never been to Harrington before so driving into town I was immediately intrigued by the very long breakwall with a bridge in the middle of it. Once up on the hill where this trig resides I got a really good look at just how long it really is.

The inlet, the beaches, the breakwall, and the ocean all tried convincing me to stay here for a couple of days. They did that, but not right now. I'll be back to explore this area more another time. It all looked so fascinating.

The old style trig was a pretty cool find, but had me wondering how many times the vanes had been replaced as surely they'd rust out pretty quick up here.

After a couple of happy snaps with the trig it was on the the mini cemetery to see what the deal was with it. Having no signage around it explaining its location or residents, I got up the GC app hoping to find an answer there... and discovered there was a cache at the trig. So back to the trig I went and added my name to the scroll. No info on the cemetery with that cache though.

Next I moved on to check out time capsule cairn. Thankfully it had information about the fact that the graves were from the folks stationed up here guiding vessels through. It also had info on the two fellas who drowned together buried up here. My questions were answered. Dancing

My appetite decided it was lunch time already so I stopped at the general store on my way back to the M1. Un-fun fact: a small bottle of water and 1 avocado cost over $6 here. Sheesh!

I had considered going to see a tall pine tree(?) at Old Bar next but instead chose to just get back on the M1 and follow it all the way down to Shellharbour.

In summary, this location is pretty cool and definitely worth revisiting for longer.

Well this one was a real bonus for the day. Heading back from Crowdy Head lighthouse we saw the lookout sign and ventured up here for a look. Thought this very obvious but quite unique trig would probably be a GCA find so had a look and sure enough it was.
Grabbed the GC cache at the trig while here too.

#GA2744 - 08:00; Day six of the 2018 Oz GeoMuster mission with Sol de lune. After a night in Kempsey, the plan for today was to cache southward through Harrington, Crowdy Head, Forster Tuncurry and then in to Sydney, in particular Rockdale and Cronulla to set up for an assault on a series of puzzle caches tomorrow morning. After another early start we soon found ourselves in Harrington, where we stopped for a snap of this old trig. TFTT Geocaching Australia Very HappyClan Cerberus

GCA 580 - 5840. When Sol de Lune and I first saw the Mid North Coast Wander Power Trail published we knew we had to go for it. With 2 Long Weekends in a row for the ACT this weekend was chosen as the ideal time. We headed up on Friday and grabbed a few caches on the way and then a few in Taree where we stayed. Yesterday and most of Today we knocked off Numbers 001-201, only having 2 DNFs along the way.

After finishing the Power trail we did a run around finding some bonus caches. Heading down the highway we stopped here for a quick find - two for one !!

TFTC !!
