Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Sophoutloud and I are on a bit of a road trip on our way to Lennox Head for a conference, it gave us an excuse to have a mini holiday and take a few days to get there. So for us that always means finding caches and trigs on our travels. This trip so far has been great as we have had the chance to visit a bunch of beautiful Northern New South Wales Beach towns. Being the off season they have been pretty quiet and even though it is June, much warmer than at home in the Hawkesbury. Nambucca Heads although surprisingly hilly is a stunning town and had enough for us to do and see to keep us busy for the afternoon. There were only the two trigs here that we managed to get fairly easily and you could see them from each end. We managed to stumble upon this one as we were actually going here for the lookout and hadn’t got to caching yet. A great lookout over the water and we saw some Whales from the viewing platform too.

We came down to Nambucca Heads in the hour before sunset for a few caches and trigs, cleaning out the GA finds in the area....
This was a nice spot in the twilight/sunset, with great views out to the south, and a cache right there too.

A quick find while doing the cache up here at dusk.

After a pretty shocking weekend mousing my sons engagement party and having to take Captain Midnight to the geomobile hospital, I finally got to catch up with my son and his beautiful fiance. We had a lovely lunch together. my parents came as it was them who drove me here. After lunch we ducked up to the lookout to look out and cache. unfortunately a couple of muggles refused to leave (well i didn't ask, but you know) so I couldn't look for the GC cache up here. we were in too much of a hurry. i was able to find this trig though. Smile

I was on my (our) way to Queensland to collect enough caches for a Challenge cache in NZ I wanted to complete when we stopped off here so the others could find the Earthcache nearby.

Trigs are always in the best locations! I especially love the trigs on headlands with awesome views. Very windy here today but I am quite adept at catching my cap as it persists in launching itself towards the sea. There are a couple of lookouts close by as well as a few caches, so well worth visiting! Cool

Wow! Even the bushfire spewing smoke couldnt ruin the awesome views up here. Great spot and a well preserved Trig. Just watch the wind, nearly lost my hat! Grabbed the nearby GC cache and headed on South.

We were there at 1.00pm. We loved revisiting this spot and today was special as it was extremely clear - we could see all the mountains marked on the information plaque.
