Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Beautiful day for it.

15-Jun-19
A long day caching in Canberra that started with a park run at Lake Tuggeranong, some caches in the lake area and then a move all over Canberra to end up at the event at the southern cross club. Lots and lots of walking and even more hills, but that's no surprise in Canberra. Secretly I actually like the hills and the views that come with it. Only a few DNF's today, my bad and all caches were in good condition! Thanks to all the owners for placing them.

Great views and refreshing breeze. Thanks

Nice hike up here with the dogs and family, off course conquering this trig was part of the fun, the other were the views and other caches on this lovely hill.

F(H)ound It! - @ 5:32 PM

Great views from up on these little hills. A lovely 4km or so walk for me and the Ridgeo-pup. Not a very strenuous climb for fabo 360 views. I was able to spend some time and get a pic while waiting for a muggle family to leave the area of a nearby cache.
Ridgeo-pup pic attached

12-Aug-17
A very enjoyable walk with the hound today, although the winds were fierce. Sadly, no views of snow-capped Bimberi from this vantage point. But excellent views of Bullen range, Mt Tennant, Booroomba rocks etc. TFTT

18-Jan-16
A lovely view from up here of Tuggeranong. It's nice that most of the grass seeds have finished Clapping.

02-Nov-15
It's all about the Trig (and Paris Bear).
Another Sunday morning, another Canberra's best bush, park and city walks. Lovely October 2015 morning with cloud cover keeping the walk cool as it is quite exposed. Spotted a water dragon as we crossed the bridge (didn't bag the cache there, too many muggles about).
Thanx GA for including Trigs as loggable caches, as Trig walks are what got me into Geocaching in the first place

11-Aug-15
A fantastic view of Tuggeranong town centre and I like to sit on the seat nearby under a spectacular tree to watch the Wedge Tail Eagle slope soaring here.

09-Aug-15
Found on a lovely morning on Urambi Hill. After getting the nearby traditional cache, we took a quick photo of the trig. Such an AWESOME view from up here - beautiful day for it too! TFTC GCA! Clan Cerberus

Found at 4pm. I was conned into chauffeuring the geodaughter and her BF down to Wanniassa and Tuggeranong. On the way into Greenway I saw this trig and later thought I can do that, so on the return journey I parked the geovehicle at an access track and headed up the hill. Upon calling a geobuddy a little later I realised I had messed up some other plans. I got to stop doing this. Anyway I was in my way and reached the trig a really awesome view from up here. The climb was rather challenging and I was huffing and puffing. But I enjoyed the view. I took my happy snaps. I also met someone up here too. Now off to look for nearby GC caches.

17-Feb-14
Grabbed this trig on a walk with the Canberra Bushwalk Club today. Climbed the hill to this beautiful view. TFTC Very Happy

Another great trig with great views and a cache or two near by.

06-May-12
I came this way for the cache and stopped for the trig.
The weather was just right for hill climbing.
Met a uni-cycler on the way up.
Found the cache quite simply. I have suffered the like of this one before.

On the way home after walking in the snowies on the long weekend. After mostly driving for the day was nice to stretch the legs and wander up here and snap this Trig. Tried (again) to find the nearby GC cache, still no luck...

I had a day off, what's the best idea to do?
Trighunting, duhhh..

Awesome views from the trig! WOW!
I think i've been here once before, back one day at school, when we ran up here for fun. Neutral
Glad i brought my camera Smile

Catching up with the phone pics. I think I found a fwe of these in the warmer months judging by the short sleeves....although you cannot tell in this particular pic.

24-Mar-11
Jim and I took Geohound Cougar out for a leisurely stroll and decided at the last minute to climb up to photograph this trig. Met a poor bunch of Tuggeanong Hawks players out on a training run...quite cruel but at least they were on their way back down having scaled the top already. Coach made a comment to us about being surprised that normal people (yay, that's us) do this for fun! Obviously not a cacher then Laughing Beautiful views in the gloaming, thanks.

203. Of course the only thing I could think of (besides how steep this was coming up from the back side) was my encounter up here the first time I was here - the source of my most embarrassing geocaching moment.

TFTT and the baa ram you.

GCA 52 - 3502 - Catching up on logging some GCA Trig 'finds'...

I very much remember this trig with views found while doing a nearby GC cache Upper Urambi (19 Aug 2008) - also remember this as the day before my Father passed away - I climbed many a hill afterwards to 'remember'...

TFTC !!

Encountered this trig point while searching for something somewhat smaller nearby Smile I believe that this is my second ACT trig point, the first being back in August 2005.

08-Mar-10
Came past here on a trek across to another GC cache. Have visited here before but didn't have a camera back then.

18-Feb-10
Was up in this area with the main purpose of getting a clue to a Sol de Lune puzzle for a cache hidden up in Namadgi National Park. Cannot complain as I got some great views of Canberra, some exercise and a few additional caches in the immediate vicinity.

03-Jan-10
Stopped off here on the way to find Fallen Puddle, Great view.

26-Dec-09
A slow post-Christmas-lunch walk up the hill between showers. Surprised a mob of wet kangaroos who looked at us as if to say "Wot the ??" I'm sure we were the only visitors for the day!

13-Dec-09
Stumbled upon this whilst on the way to another cache! Ha - me thinks I've been here before... Lots of times actually... Oh well, didn't take a photo then, so did this time!

Another hill I've climbed numerous times. I have 2 caches nearby and have the one very close to trig as well.

Logging now as I plan to grab as many as ACT trigs as possible.

I Agree with Squirrels comments below (+ a few extra comments of my own)

From now on, I will definitely be carrying a camera at every trig point I visit. I really support the introduction of TrigPoint "caches" because there are usually great views from such highpoints and it is particularly applicable in certain parks.

When I first started caching, I often didn't carry a camera, (Digital cameras did not exist)and visited many trigs whilst caching. I also visited many trigs BEFORE geocaching even existed, when I was riding my Mountain bike/s in the 1990's, so all recent finds.

However, whether the thought police like it or not, I intend to claim every trig that I visited since starting caching at the end of 2001. As evidence, I will either post the photo if I have one, or reference the cache that I visited nearby, or name another cacher who can vouch for me being there.

No photo for this one - but I visited this trig on 21/10/2006 when I visited the "Upper Urambi" cache.
