Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Nice stroll along the headland in a brisk breeze, with the sea occasionally breaking over the cliffs on to the path.

We made a detour off the highway to find some GA caches dodging the rain we arrived at GZ photo taken

Soph out loud and I are on a bit of a road trip on our way to Lennox Head for a conference, it gave us an excuse to have a mini holiday and take a few days to get there. So for us that always means finding caches and trigs on our travels. This trip so far has been great as we have had the chance to visit a bunch of beautiful Northern New South Wales Beach towns. Being the off season they have been pretty quiet and even though it is June, much warmer than at home in the Hawkesbury. We have been spending a time travelling slowly between a bunch of beach towns we have not spent time in along the New South Wales North Coast and it has been quite a treat. Fingal head was quite spectacular although very windy today. the light house here was very small and cute

I visited Kingscliff today for a workshop. Afterwards I decided to find some caches in the area. I had a pleasant walk along the Kingscliff Baseline finding trig points. The sun was starting to set but there was enough time to drive towards Fingal Head. I enjoyed the walk towards the historic lighthouse. There were a couple of brush turkeys scratching in the undergrowth. Finding the Fingal Head trig is a bonus right next door to the lighthouse. Thanks for the trig GA

Yes. I’ve been here before and admired this Trig Point and Lighthouse Smile

So I’ve decided to focus my pre-work (during week days) mini adventures on areas that are popular for tourists or just usually busy. I have an extensive to-visit list to get through so I think this current approach makes sense. Today for example, a week day and I got the one remaining car park!

I arrived at the Trig and was glad to see it still had its top half. The previous two I visited today only had the bottom sections left. I appreciated the people who keep up the painting maintenance. It’s a shame they couldn’t clear some of the growth away so this can be better displayed. Oh well, I guess not everyone values these things like I do.

Now, let’s check out this splendid Lighthouse.. again Very Happy

Thanks for highlighting this and for the TP. Always great to visit some places which I would never have seen if it wasn't for caching. Clapping

Today we took a gorgeous walk up to the lighthouse, haven't done it for a couple of years but as a youngster I lived up there while my dad fished off the rocks. Thanks for making me go back, no wait we went for a walk and I said there is a cache here I got to get it. TFTC

On a road trip to Ballina with 1MinnieMoo, wombles and a couple of munchkins. Of course we decided to take the scenic route and ended up passing this Trig Point on our travels. It was a gorgeous day to visit the lighthouse, Trig and funky columnar basalt lava flow. Certain a lot of muggles thought the same!

Thanks for the smiley Geocaching Australia Very Happy

#GA2993 - 11:25; After a relaxing couple days on the Gold Coast, the crew headed back over the border for breakfast in Kingscliffe. After a very nice brekky, it was back north again via a few caches which involved nice views etc. Parked the geomobile in the carpark and enjoyed a very pleasant walk up to the Lighthouse and trig. After grabbing a snap of the lighthouse, it was back to the trig. I'm curious about the other nearby bolt and whther that might have been an old trig point? It was a beautiful, the first day in several where it was not too hot, so we decided to visit the lighthouse and collect the trig as well.

'She' the trig, is looking a little worse for wear but she still has her vanes which is more than can be said for other trigs of this style around town.

Photo of the trig with Seeka the friendly GCA attached.

Thanks for the trig.

Whilst on a 21hour drive from the Gold Coast to Canberra, I was collecting some Earthcaches and came across a few lighthouses and trig points so took the required snaps for logging on GCA. Clan CerberusVery HappyClan Cerberus

On my way to Coolangatta (to fly overseas) I stopped by the Fingal lighthouse and trig to get a few photos.
Found it at 1950 - so as the sun had set the photos were a bit hard to get.

Found the trig and lighthouse when coming to do the earth cache. Amazing views of dolphins surfing the waves. Love Fingal!

Found while on the way to the Fingal Head Earthcache.
Nice lighthouse here too.

27-Dec-12
Out for a drive with little Blake.

We grabbed a new-ish cache from near the caravan park and headed up the track to check out the light house.

I saw the trig point (that I had wandered past on a few previous visits) and decided to check the GCA App on my Android phone. It was listed so we set about trying to get a photo with my phone. (also my GPSR)

After a few failed attempts of getting a good shot, a bloke wandered past and helped out by taking some photos. He said he was "the worst photographer in the world" but I think he did alright.

Thanks for the cache. Cheers!!

One of my favourite places in the world, so I was glad to return here to get this Trig point.

Nice big swell crashing on the rocks below.

Thanks Geocaching Australia

Access to this area was very straightforward. Once we had taken the obligatory photo, we looked for and found another cache in the area. We then spent a few minutes looking at the view, in particular watching the surf pounding onto the coastline. Great views from this vantage point.

The first thing we (I) did when getting off the plane at Coolangatta Airport was to drive down here to grab this trig and the nearby cache. Beautiful views, a classic old lighthouse and wonderful rock formations kept the rest of the family happy as well. Top spot!

06-Sep-11
I found the trig nice and easy today – unlike the nearby cache that eluded me. There’s always a next time. Thoroughly enjoyed the walk up to the look out from the nearby car park. Such a nice spot up here, beautiful views of the ocean and coastline. The gulls flying around the distant Cook Island made it look like an eerie lost world. I couldn’t get too close to the trig, as it was inside the temporary fence that the council workers had erected while they fix the stairs and decking to the lighthouse.

Beautiful spot. See if you can find that plaque remembering Mr Fingal.

A lovely spot with lovely views. Came here not so long ago to do nearby Pam, Dan & Us cache but didn't have the camera to log the Trig Point.

Fingal Head is located just south of the QLD/NSW border and is on the southern side of the Tweed River. This trig point is next to the Fingal Head Lighthouse, erected in 1872.
It also has views to the north and south and spectacular view to Cooks Island and Point Danger to the North.

I first visited this trig back in 2009. Was into trig hunting before I knew about geocaching! A top spot next to another favourite of mine - lighthouses! When I was here, the coast had taken a bit of a beating and the beach south was littered with pandanus trees that had been uprooted by the surge. (Logged June 2012)
