Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Coords moved to correct location. Trig unarchived as you can get close enough, next to the fence. Do not cross over the fence onto the private property.

After a big day geocaching in and around Swansea, then up to St Helens for more caching by moonlight; and an overnight stay.
Glad we have this lovely part of the world to ourselves this morning.

First cache for the day after camping the night at Swimcart Beach. What a great spot to camp too. And what a great part of Tasmania. No wonder the place was crawling with muggles!!! At least this one was easy to get compared the physical caches here. Thanks.

28-Feb-19
First for the day after camping at Swimcart Beach last night.
Love this part of Tasmania.
Grabbed the 4 caches in the area but passed heaps more on our way to the Lagoon Camp Area to stay tonight. It's hard when you're travelling with muggles!!! You really can't expect them to stop every few minutes and wait while you cache. Good excuse to return!!!

21-Jan-19
Spotted the Trig when out here for an earth cache tonight.
Didn’t realise there were a few other GA caches out here, so guess I’ll be back out here tomorrow evening for another look.

31-Aug-12
This one was really hard to find Laughing No one home at the nearby property but I reckon they will start to wonder why so many folks want a piccie of themselves standing near their fence with the trig in the background. Question
A very easy cache to log. TFTC Clapping

13-Jul-12
Have been here on many occasions and also to find caches by Snuva, sirius as well as Liz and Bruce.

Wanted to create a cache on this one myself, glad I didn't cos' did not know it had been archived. Thanks to Swampy for putting back up again.

Congrats to Swamps and Tim Tam on their FTF.
Cheers OldSaint.

13-Feb-12
Saw this trig as we were driving by on the way to another cache. Decided that since it was similiar to the one at Bronte Lagoon Area we would log it. Turns out it is closer to the fence than the one at Bronte too.

13-Feb-12
Found on a trip up the east coast, hunting for frogs I think.

01-Jan-12
This trig is closer to the fence than Bronte Lagoon Area, so I'm unarchiving it.

08-Oct-09
Didn't check it out until I arrived...but definitely on private property and confirmed with LIST.
