Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

This was a nice easy surprise trig for us on the way back down from checking out the ABC building further up the hill. The lookout itself is fenced off for construction at the moment, so we grabbed a quick shot and head on down the road.

I’m driving down the hill towards GZ when I see this fine looking Trig just sitting there looking good in amongst the suburbs. A pleasant surprise on a great day out. I decided to chill here for bit and made myself a coffee and prepared some snacks. My southern all-day adventure is going well.
Thanks for the cache

Had to pop out with Ravenclaw2480 to grab a Christmas cache, luckily it's not raining yet even though the clouds are threatening to!

There's a new information sign here I hadn't seen before, it's always nice to read a bit more about Lismore Smile

On the road from Coffs to Byron today, we've taken the 'back-road' through Grafton/Casino and Lismore, mainly to grab a bag of trigs, and a few caches thrown in too.... There were nice views from up here, lucky the road closure still let us get to the trig.

It is absolutely pouring down but luckily there is bitumen right up to the trig.
Decided to come across to Lismore this afternoon from Casino where I am spending a couple of nights on my way north. TFTT Geocaching Australia. Clan CerberusClan Cerberus

I have visited the Claude Riley lookout again today. It is a popular spot to visit. The trees are well-grown so there is less to see. The Lismore Base Hospital can be seen through the gap. TS Dodd is easy to find and good place to see the sun setting.

Field log, will update with photo etc when I get home w computer Very Happy

Additional info 14/1/2021: Wow this is a trig which does get a few visits. Well, Lismore is a nice spot! I will add a photo of me with the trig. My brother led us up to this lookout, and he suggested there was a GC cache up here. Maybe there was but it appears to be no longer here. He went searching behind the trig, at which point I said that this would be tracked on GCA, so I still found a cache anyway SmileVery HappyDancingClan Cerberus

There was a teenager at the location and it made me feel a bit weird. I think I made him feel the same way, as he walked off. Oh well.

On a stopover day in Lismore.

oh hello there. saw this right on the side of the road at I was heading towards it down the hill. easy parking right beside it if heading downhill. Smile

Though there's a good view (there should be, it's a lookout), we didn't expect the trig to be here when there's higher hills all around. Anyway this is where TS Dodd was put and it doesn't get any easier to find a trig... the GC cache, not so easy. Actually we couldn't find it.

Visiting Lismore on my way home from a QLD holiday.
Thanks for bringing me here to see this.

#GA2703 - 16:40; Day four of the 2018 Oz GeoMuster mission with Sol de lune. After leaving the Mega yesterday afternoon and caching our way to Taree where we spent the night at a local caravan park, the plan for today was to cache our way north past Port Macquarie, then through Kempsey, Macksville, Urunga, Coffs Harbour, Grafton, Casino, Lismore and into Ballina in preparation for some caching around Byron and the Tweed before setting sail south again for home. Although not part of the original itinerary, I was able to collect a few more caches in Taree, which Sdl had picked up on previous visits. On our way in to Grafton, we saw that there were traffic delays near Woodburn which we might get caught up in if we stuck to the highway, so after finishing our caching mission there we decided to continue along Summerland Way through to Casino instead. After collecting a couple of trigs in Casino, it was through to Lismore and this trig. TFTT Geocaching Australia Very HappyClan Cerberus

Day 4 of a trek along the NSW coast to Tweed Heads after attending the Morisset event with LuckyL10n. Another day with lots of trigs grabbed...along with the odd traditional or two.

No problem with the find here and the required photo was soon snapped.

Thanks for another trig.....

I had tried to Find the other trig in Lismore already tonight, but the camera wasn't able to pick out the trig on the water reservoir at Goonellabah, so drop by here after the Event and after trying for some Traditionals. I think this one got a suitable photo; so I returned to the other trig the next morning.

Didn't know this one was a GCA TP cache until I got home. Lucky we got some photos while we were there.

Lots of dust about which hindered the view.

This trig marker has been dedicated to T.S. Dodd, who was involved in survey work for the NSW Government for 29 years. He was also born and lived in Lismore for many years.
The Trig is also a lookout which overlooks the Lismore CBD.
