Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Kinda cool to have a Bald Rock Trig Lookout up there Mr. Green

A last minute(ish) decision had me at this wonderful trig today with fellow geo-adventurer Davinells. I had heard more than one person mention this was the new-Uluru. I had even read it in an online article. I guess with Uluru being TEMPORARILY closed off, we need to find a new one that people can enjoy. When we arrived at the summit we looked at each other and said in sync, “This is no Uluru!” It’s beautiful, it’s grand, it’s enchanting.. I could go on.. but it’s no Uluru. We wondered if the people who truly believe this have even visited Uluru and if they have they have clearly forgotten the experience one gets from it. Maybe it was the new-Uluru tongue-in-cheek style!? BUT, according to the description in the GC Multi Cache up here Bald Rock is currently “Australia’s Largest Climbable Rock”, soooo, well, I guess it IS the New-Uluru or Newluru! Regardless if it is or isn’t, it’s a wondrous location and one I shall return to. Thanks for the cache Smile

Have had a most enjoyable and tiring day fulfilling our aims and some. It was planned to climb up to the top of Bald Rock; down to the bottom of Basket Swamp Falls; up to Timbarra Lookout and throw in a few traditional caches along the way that had historical significance such as Thunderbolt's Hideout; The Brisbane Line and F111. We achieved all that and a couple more.
To all the COs and the maintenance teams, a huge thank you and pleaase forgive my logs - I'm rather tired.
All logs were signed as Smittengranny or SG depending on the sizeof, and space on the logs.

Not prepared to show my beetroot coloured face after climbing up the steep way. Went back the other way to protect my knees. So glad I did as the scenery was wwell worth the walk!

Climbed Bald Rock while camping in the area for a few nights

For quite a while I had wanted to get on up to Bald Rock, but had been to busy to get on up. With QldMega providing a good excuse to be in the area for more than a couple of days I made sure that I get it. Tho it did take the second day to work out the way to get to it, as the GPSr wanted to take me into Girraween National Park, where I ended up doing some caches, before getting the correct route from the tourist info centre.
Both days were overcast with light drizzle so I put on the Gortex raincoat and took off for the top. Even with water running down the granite I had enough traction with the boots. Navigated my way through the boulders and the not so steep parts until just 10m away I could see the trig. Nice.
Will add some photos when off the tablet.

Climbing Bald Rock was very high on our list of must do's when attending the nearby Mega. Luckily we did it before the rainy days really set in over Easter, and while it drizzled a bit around Tenterfield which caused us to fill in some time at the very good railway musuem and a coffee shop (no hardship there!) the sun was very much out by the time we got to the top. Up the long way and down by the direct way - which was awesome!! A spectacular spot.

Tired of throw downs decided to climb up here via the gentle route. Was in my teens last time I climbed it. Did the EC as well. A cloudy day so not much to see. Had my photo beside the trig taken by fellow hikers, signed the summit register. Land forms on way up worth the walk. Photo to follow.

LaughingRazzVery Happy Found this while doing two other caches on the rock. Reached the camp ground at lunch, set up, had lunch then off we went. Hmm gerrynewgirl is not as fit as she used to be, but after numerous brief stops along the way - finally made it to the top. What an awesome sight of that rock, and what a magnificent view of the valley below. TFTC DancingClapping

Clapping Found while doing MATTYRX's Bald Rock cache. Great walk and over night camping. Awesome views!

We climbed up in the fog and hoped to get some impression of this magnificent rock. Then as we were on top just about to decent the fog cleared and we could see all the surroundings and the boulder itself. What an amazing place. Well worth the long detour that we did for coming up here on our NSW campervan trip.

After a busy Christmas period, I decided to take a day to myself and climb Bald Rock. It was a great day for a climb, and there weren’t too many others to share the park with. I chose the easier path up and the harder trek down. It’s a nice spot up here - as well as the trig point there is a visitors book to read & sign, and a plaque marking the distance of how far different landmarks and towns are. This is one of the better trigs – a great hike to find it, and great views when you get there. 5 stars!

Geofamily had climbed this rock before, but this was my first time up (the long way around). There was absolutely no way I was going up that rock face, and neither would I want to roll down it. But, the walk and views were very nice (albeit a little hazy) TFTC.
