Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

I was able to talk the boys into stopping by this one although they made it a drive-by while I added some steps. Rolling EyesWinkLaughing A nice quick one at 15:55 before heading on southwards again. Very Happy

We stayed in Yamba for the night on our way north to Queensland and a Fraser Island four wheel drive trip. Nice spot despite the weather. A couple of nice easy to grab caches close by to each other. Spent some time watching the boats and the waves after wards.

We had to cut our swimming session a bit short as a thunder storm was rolling over so we came up here to this easy trig. The trig is in great shape and so is the name plate. The replica lighthouse nearby is also pretty cool. Not sure why it took 25 years to make though.

I am in Yamba this weekend for an end of year work function staying at Angourie Resort which is lovely. We have the day free so I am going caching. The Yamba Trig Point is my second cache today. I enjoyed see the replica lighthouse very quaint. It's a nice day for walking around finding caches Thanks for the Trig Point GA

As much as I enjoy hiking and adventuring to a Trig it’s nice get an easy one on occasions, especially one that’s intact. Even the nameplate is attached. Images taken. Now it’s time for another look at the lighthouse. Thanks for the cache Smile

Loved the sign on the road that our GPS wanted us to go up to get to this one:
"No through road - ignore your GPS"
Never seen that before!!!
Didn't take too long to find our own way there though.
Thanks.

Staying overnight in Yamba, popped up the hill to get this in the morning. Good views.

#GA2739 - 14:15; Day five of the 2018 Oz GeoMuster mission with Sol de lune. After a night in Ballina, the plan for today was to cache northward through Ballina to Byron Bay and then on to Kingscliff before turning south for home through Bangalow, Evans Head, New Italy, Yamba, Maclean and on to Kempsey for another overnight stay. After an early start, we hadn't gone far up the road when we saw evidence of a heavy shower not too long before we got there, so we seem to have dodged a bullet and got packed up with fairly dry gear. Following a successful run through to Cape Byron, we continued our journey along some interesting and at times rather rough roads before getting to the highway and on to Brunswick Heads then Kingscliff. Another hiccup after we started the trek south again when we missed the turn off into Bangalow due to older maps and newer roads. Didn't have any problems finding our way in to Yamba though, despite all the roadworks on the highway. Headed to this trig and grabbed some snaps before going on for a couple of others in the area. Day 5 of the trip up the NSW coast with LuckyL10n after the Morisset event. Today was from Ballina to Kingscliff and back to Kempsey. A few more caches grabbed, with most being trigs...

No problems spotting this one and the required photo was soon in the bag.

Thanks for yet another trig...

It's a breezy afternoon here, but pleasantly sunny and warm.

Found this easily, even though it was hidden on my angle of approach by the replica of the 1879 Lighthouse. And of course it's crowded on the hilltop now by a water tank dressed with myriad telecommunication antennae.

Still a lovely spot.

TFTC GCA.

On my way home from 3 weeks at Toowoomba I wasn't surprised to see this trig at Yamba, as I am sure that at some time I have stopped and logged it; only to find out when I get home that I hadn't logged it GCA yet. So I am very glad that I got a photo of it while there!
That is my new hat (for a while), as Staff, for the Camporee.

In Iluka visiting family so we took the ferry across the clarence. A nice hot day but at least no downpour like yesterday. Geowife and geodaughter stayed down near Turners while I walked up the hill to grab the trig. Always a nice place to visit but getting more touristy unfortunately.

In Yamba for some R and R and this one is next on the list. Walked over from the working lighthouse and took the required photo. On top of the pillar is enscribed Geodetic Survey Central Mapping authority of NSW. I could not see a number on the top or on the engraved plate on the side of the concrete base. TFTC

14-Nov-13
Found on the NSW leg of our Round Aust trip
Moved from Byron Bay today down to Yamba for a couple of days and after setting up the caravan in the POURING rain and getting drenched, we took the kids out for a look at the sights, found some caches and some waymarks.
Driving around and as we went past the lighthouse we saw this trigg point and stopped to get a pic!
