Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

Official Code: TS10262
Official Name: Moonee Beach (not to be confused with "Moonee" - TP3616, Moonee Range Area, TS3180, actually called Moonee)

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

We spent a few hours north of Coffs Harbour this morning, from trig to trig, grabbing 3 trigs and a handful of caches in between.
It was a nice, but a little muddy walk out to this one, great spot.

18-Dec-21
A nice walk from a good safe swimming spot for the little kids. Pretty amazing sight as you come out of the trees and see the lone trig standing on a grassy headland.

We had finally been able to visit family nearby and took the time to pick up a few caches while here TFTC

Early morning walk out to the point for this trig. I love the effort that goes into making these trails and raised paths through bushland.

Had a day off from Rally Oz duties so caching I went

31-Mar-17
Another lovely headland and another trig.

13-Sep-15
1235, one of the reasons for heading this far north was to grab a few more trigs (and especially those that are Waymarks). I don't think I have ever been out onto this particular headland before. A pleasant walk, winding through some of the coastal vegetation. Initially I accidentally loaded some photos for Emerald Beach Trig, so trying again for Moonee.

28-May-14
I'd just found Moonee Magic nearby and saw the familiar shape of a trig plinth in the distance. No nameplate, mast or vanes, but the instrument mount has a protective cover.
When surveyed on 2 December 1976, it had a 1.45m mast and 0.6m vanes . Designation is TS 10262 (Moonee Beach).

16-Nov-13
Found on the NSW leg of our Round Aust trip
Staying in Coffs for a few days and today we took the kids out for a look at the sights, found some caches and some waymarks.

Completed a GCA Trig & Waymark at the same time – used photos for both logs – a very nice walk out to this point – thanks

A bonus find when looking for Moonee Magic. A sensational spot to view the coastline.

Awesome... another Trig to add to my collection! Visited this TP on a beautiful early spring day whilst wandering between Moonee and Sapphire Beach. Found the nearby Moonee Magic too. You're missing out if you don't stop by here. Cool

A little late in logging this one as I just found the photos on a memory card. Found the nearby cache Moonee Magic and then walked over to the trig to enjoy the stunning views along the coast here, thanks great spot. Very HappyVery Happy

We were there doing Moonee Magic on a fantastic clear day. Great views from here nearly all around.

02-Jan-11
No luck on the nearby traditional GC cache (Moonee Magic) but this trig was easily found.

I am having all kinds of equipment problems today so the good camera was in the car with a flat battery.

I eventually convinced my phone/also my GPSR that it actually wanted to take a photo and all was good.

Thanks for the cache guys. Great spot.

Yeah Second FTF Trig today! This one requires a relatively short hike up from Moonee Beach. There is a GC cache right next door (excpet I DNF'd that would you believe!) by Liz and Bruce. Absolutely stunning views. The Trig is broken, but the base is there and labelled as such. Come get it, awesome spot, just follow the path up from the carpark.
