Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

This was the closest Waymark/Trig left to find from home (Taree), with Tuckers Nob a very close SECOND; but only an unsuccessful to be made on that toady. As the GPSr routed me along 'familiar' tracks from other attempts at this trig (and the 'nearby' Tuckers Nob) a year ago or so, I thought that I had sufficient petrol (150 km) to get on with finding these with my younger son while he is home on holidays from Uni.
What the GPSr doesn't necessarily tell you is, if some of those planned tracks may actually be Private Property access, REALLY steep, or BADLY rutted. After several points of reversing course we got a DOWNHILL track leading to Mt Brown Rd, that went over a VERY dodgy wooden bridge that Nicholas was happy to walk over. The Nissan Dualis made it, but be careful if using a heavier vehicle. Then came a huge mud puddle, with a newer side track that we opted for.
Unfortunately I didn't end up taking the intended route, and slipped sideways into a couple of holes filled with sloppy clay.
Having been in somewhat similar circumstances 'a few times' I was not going to 'throw the towel in', so got down and dirty!
My concern was with the passenger side front wheel, but the more that I jacked the car up at that front point of the car chassis, the more the rear wheel lifted off of the ground, and I couldn't get the front wheel to lift, except enough to put some lino slid underneath it (that had been left lying around. Jammed some sticks under it, and made a new base for the rear wheel. Dug away some of the humps under the sill of the car, and after a couple of hours we were able to reverse 2 metres! All we needed to getting going, after making sure the way forward was okay. The only thing was that the car electronics now told me that we had 50 km of fuel left - damn! So off we go to Coramba to fill up.
So in 2016 I had tried 'from the south' without success, so this time from the north, and going on some sketchy tracks, we got onto Peak Trail that got us quite close until the Duallis could get no more traction on the large gravel and we were sliding backwards/down hill. Parked the car on a berm, and walked a couple of hundred metres up the hill to where 'earthly65' had parked, back in 2013, and then followed a soft dirt track up to the bare concrete pedestal.
Found the trig @ 1140, Thursday, 16/2/17
Where we had parked the car we were only 140 metres away (ATCF), and I had asked my son if he wanted to take the 'direct route' up the 'rainforest slope'. We both decided against that 'option', and that later became the deciding point against proceeding onto Tuckers Nob trig when we could only get 1.8 km away from where we would have had to do a similar bush bash for at least a kilometre!

We used Tower Trail off Fridays Creek Road to access Peak trail which passes this trig, trail is not good, for experienced 4wders only, we enjoyed it!! we parked just off the trail at s30 20.645 e152 59.825, from this wp access to trig is up steep slope but less than 100m Wink

Rain made tackling this one more hazardous as it is red earth country but we were determined to gain a find on this one, no real bush bashing once near gz, just steep terrain...road/forestry trails for experienced 4wders.
