Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

The better half and I were going to a nearby GC event and saw that I had never logged this trig point so continued on to it before going to the event.

Even though the stairs looked not that big they took were hard for us to get up as they uneven in height which played havoc with our bad knees.

Once at the top it was nice to see the new work being done for the walkways and around the WW2 structure.

Thanks for the cache.

We did not have this one on our list to find as we were rather restricted by time and we had 6 must do caches hidden by a geocacvhing friend from Queensland and the one we were after at this area was the Earth Cache. Saw the trig Marker and had a look on line so now we have one meore trig point on our totals list. TFTC GCA Clan MinotaurVery Happy

Quick find after climbing the stairs. As others have mentioned, the trig station is pretty obvious, but the actual survey marker is a few metres away under a yellow hatch cover. Clan Minotaur

The three of us were visiting the area and grabbing a couple of nearby caches. Such an interesting trig point, I thought we'd better grab a photo and log a trigpoint.

Fantastic views, I have been here before searching for caches hidden nearby, Today I was doing the same as there are more new caches in the area. Great spot to watch the sun go down. It must have been tough manning these spotting bunkers and the nearby guns.

I didn't have the necessary tool to open the yellow box, usually the lids are easy to open but not this one.

Visited this area several times including there is another cache nearby. Enjoyed the 350 deg view from this spot. There is a benchmark disc inside the yellow metal lid from where I stood and took the photos of Trig Point. You would need to open the yellow lid to find the said disc inside, but beware of the large mud (orange and yellow) wasps' nest is located under it and beside the concrete and yellow metal lid. Take a caution to open if you need to which I didn't dare to.

13-Dec-09
Nice easy find/log while we were waiting for muggles to leave "Rocko Rocks".

Be warned - the muggles were hanging around as there is a LOT of vandalism/break in of cars in the area. Don't park/leave your car for too long, some people are just rat bags and have to help themselves to your property.

11-Oct-09
One of several trigs/benchmarks found today.

Trig station is located on top of a old WW2 bunker. This one is easy to locate and access.Great view also.

25-Sep-09
Hmmm maybe posting a picture wasnt such a good idea

23-Sep-09
A drive out to the point and then a short climb up some well formed rock/concrete stairs led us to this trig point which is situated on the top of a military bunker.
