Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

Official code: TS3297

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Out grabbing some of the newly listed trigs around Singleton and Muswellbrook today with Sophoutloud. Such a beautiful day and not to hot either. Had a fun little drive up here really should only be attempted in a 4wd vehicle. once at the top we had a great view out across the town and the surrounding hills. shame we didn't bring a picnic.

On our way to Scone before heading into Barrington Tops, we managed a mixed bag of finds today, 5 trigs and a virt, and a swag of GC stuff including 7 FTFs.... this trig was really the find of the day - we loved the little 4WD trek up the hill, with only a couple of clunks and bottom outs on the first couple of humps we cruised up without any issues.... and it's a top spot....

Visited today whilst on the way to TCMF2020. This is my first ever day solely trig hunting (ie no picking up trigs whilst geocaching). I came in from the water reservoir tanks below and then approached from the east where the trig was spotted some 200m away. Trig itself in poor condition as it has been vandalised. Nameplate well and truly missing. Basically just a concrete pillar. In a fantastic location though! Nice view to the S/E looking down over the New England Highway where I just came from. Just watch the cacti - I brushed passed one somehow and it got embedded in the side of my leg, ripping half of the leaf clean off - ouch! TFTC!!

I attacked this one from the wrong place last time I was here. Coal Rd is the way to go. Great views from here, with a sunrise and kangaroos to add to the experience.

On our way home from the Oz geo Muster (MEGA) at Morisset and only going as far as Armidale today so plenty of time to indulge in my third best past time. ( Eating Chocolate and going places with Mrs YOF being #1 and #2).
Drove along the road and could see a track going up the hill but could not find an entry that was not on marked private property. Parked roadside 200meters from GZ and walked up the hill. The designation plate has been removed from the Concrete Plinth. Good view from up here. TFTT Geocaching Australia. Clan MinotaurVery Happy

Out with Team Merlin to find this trig.

On our way north with JJCC and the family. Stopped off in order to find this trig. Found a little parking spot on the side of the road and direct lined and walked up the hill. Spotted from about 40m out - what a top view, well worth the walk up. Concrete pedestal with top plate is all that remains.

Here is a screen shot of Muswellbrook - IF anyone is interested in finding State Survey Markers in the area. Should have checked it out!

1255 After finding a nearby GC cache I thought I could see this one, and sure enough found the concrete pedestal. No pole, vanes or name plate. Nice views tho.

After finding a GC cache nearby we came on to the trig point. There isn't a vane on top but the very good condition of the bolts suggest that the base is used on occasions to support surveying equipment. Unfortunately the identification plate on the base has been removed. After taking the obligatory phoos (which have been added to the Gallery), we then enjoyed the views from this excellent vantage point. TFTC

Found this one while in Muswellbrook for the day for work. While it was a bit windy up here today it was a nice spot to sit and have a bite to eat.

Report: Got the ute about 200m up the mud track before turning around and almost sliding all the way back down. Not recommended after rain, but on a dry day a 4x4 can make this a DB with ease. 2WD need to watch some pretty big ruts. So I parked the muddy ute and slogged up the steep hill. I lived in Muswellbrook for 2 years and never made it up here... goes to show! Great view from the top Very Happy
