Description
Another in the GCA trig point series.
This trig point is at the top of Rosny Hill, and is basically a drive-by. It is affectionately known by the Department of Primary Industries and Water Information and Land Services Division as ST 77! A large parking area offers wonderful views of the City of Hobart, Mount Wellington, the Tasman Bridge, and the glorious Derwent River. Although these views are also spectacular at night, other nocturnal users of the area may make venturing out to the trig point a less attractive option than a daytime approach.
You should also be on the lookout for Sabre-Toothed Wombats, who also frequent the area! See No More Mr. Nice Guy (GC13E9P) for more information!
Other Caches in the area include: View 360 (GCN3HB), Illawarra's Folly (GCJGY1), and most of SG-3's caches. In case you don't know, SG-3 is a multi-award winning cache hider. If you go for any of his caches you can expect quality. QUALITY, I say! (SG-3 says: "OI! I didn't write that! Someone has viciously vandalized my original, self- deprecating description! ")
Standard GCA information for trigpoint caches follows:
A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.
A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself. Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to. These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps. To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point. The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies. This particular trigpoint was discovered independently and entered manually. Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website. If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated. |

Cheers.
Great view up here.
Thanks for the trigpoint.
Thanks Geocaching Australia.
The view from up here is great.
Our ambition was greater than what we could achieve on this walk. This was partly brought about by the fact that the multicache took us on a circuit of Rosny Hill that we had already just walked. Those we didn't get can wait for another day.
JABs.

Got a reasonable picture of the sunset on my Iphone
Our camera's busted so we had to use Sogs phone to take the required piccie. Sorry about Paulus' hair.
A lovely day, but my the grass is long!
As we were leaving, a young lad wandered towards the trig with an Etrex Yellow in his hand... maybe a new cacher in the works?
Thanks to the team at GCA for this addition to the world of Geocaching in Oz!
Hilltop was devoid of any activity on a late Saturday arvo. Thanks Mr SG3
I think Gorbak may have beaten me (I was early afternoon).
A quick find after dropping off the young 'uns at school.
