Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Found while caching around Talisker and Cape Jervis. This one seems to have been recently used as there was a survey laser sitting over the trig point although the metal tripod has now gone. Many thanks for this one Geocaching Australia.

#GA5668 - 12:50; In South Oz for a break with the geohoney and today we headed down to Cape Jervis for a look around. After checking out the ferries and a lighthouse, we took a detour to grab a snap of this trig as we set off for Victor Harbour. TFTT Geocaching Australia Very HappyClan Cerberus

While in South Australia for a 4-day conference in Adelaide I had another week to drive on home, so took a circuitous route find a few trigs, Waymarks, and interesting places. This was easy to get to with a slack spot in the fence, and I was able to photograph the Survey Marker immediately beneath the tripod trig: 6526x1285.

Well while it could definitely be described as a wild and wooly spot today I think I would have called this location Cow Hill if I had been naming it today! Called by here between rain squalls and snapped a couple of quick pictures to log the find. Cows featured in all of them Mr. Green and rain, not to mention wind (which you cant see but does account for some of the blurriness Surprised )
Cheers

We'd earlier found a trig called Tree Hill, now we seem to be on Sheep Hill!

We did see a sheep just after logging this, but there were way more cows.

As we drove to this one it looked so strange to see the blades of the wind mills across the hill turning - the towers that hold them being obscured by the hill.
Didn't cross the fence to this one although probably could have done as there was no one around. Just took the required photo from the road. Thanks.

A quick find in between the lookout and the wind farm. Interesting placement of the Trig, it almost looked below the crest when we approached from the North.

Spotted this one 40m inside the property line, I guess that's close enough?

After finding the traditional cache nearby we went further along the road to locate this trig. Trig point was 40m inside the fence on private property. Took photo.
