Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Found while caching around Talisker and Cape Jervis. Great views to Kangaroo Island from this area. Many thanks for the trig Geocaching Australia

After the 4-day conference I attended in Adelaide I headed 'south' to grab a few Waymarks and Trigs. This one required just a 'short' Terrain 2, then 2.5 walk beside a fence, and then across the headland to the tripod trig.

On an interstate trip from Brisbane with Fangsoki and Pprime (P') searching out old caches and we were in the area to find Kangaroo Views.

After finding it we headed straight up the bank to check out this trig point. We passed the carcass of an old rusted out Hillman on the way.

Thanks for this Trig point.

On a long weekend trip to the Adelaide area with Fangsoki and Crew153. Targeting a nearby traditional cache we then wondered back up the hill past a dearly departed motor vehicle to here - the top. Tried getting a tad higher (largely unsuccessfully) but was able to absorb the views out to the island and the passing ferry. A gorgeous spot. Thanks for the Trig!

We would have seen this trig back in October 2005 when we were finding a nearby cache hidden by Alex. I don't remember seeing, but then again, I can barely remember finding Alex's cache either. This trig did show up on my TOPO SA maps though, so I listed it on GCA back in 2009, and now I'm finally here to log a find. Very Happy

Can't believe such an easily accessible trig has only had one finder since published in 2009.
Grabbed the required photo and then wandered down the hill to find the nearby GC cache.
Thanks.

Windy day, windy spot from which to watch the ferry make its way to KI. At the top met a guy going surfing despite the weather.
