Description
Located opposite the Volunteer Marine Rescue building at Crookhaven Heads.
A geodetic station on the Crookhaven Headland Reserve, near the mouth of the Crookhaven River.
Nearby is the ruined Orient Point Lighthouse which has an unusual lantern like light. Unfortunately it has fallen foul of neglect and vandalism but still offers visitors a wonderful photograph. There is a walk (and a nearby GC cache!) on a good track around the headland that runs adjacent to the lighthouse and provides wonderful views of Crookhaven Bight.
Orient Point boat ramp allows access to the river for small craft otherwise there is a regional boat ramp at Crookhaven Heads that provides for safe launching and access to Crookhaven and Shoalhaven Rivers. There is according to tourism information good fishing "...local offshore fishing grounds and 'The Banks", famous for its marlin, tuna and other game fish..." There is also good fishing from the river bank or off the rocks.
Whilst we had our lunch at one of the many picnic tables provided quite a number of SCUBA divers appeared from the nearby shores - from the tourist information "...SCUBA divers use Crookhaven Heads boat ramp to access 'The Banks' (experienced divers only) and other dive sites around Beecroft Peninsula, Lobster Bay, the wrecks of SSMerimbula and SS Wandra..."
There is plenty of parking here and is a lovely place to vist with easy access and terrain

Found while on a caching run with specimenX down the coast - a really fun trip with lots of cache finds. While I mainly looked for GC caches, when an easy GCA cache comes along we go for that as well. Trigs are particularly nice to track down and find. I was very happy when they became part of the GCA cache family. Its especially satisfying if you have made a big climb up for one ! I have also now joined dragonZone in Clan Cerberus, so there are more reasons to find those GCA caches. Its interesting to find the many different types of trigs. From the traditional metal legs and vanes, to the concrete base with vanes, to the ones on top of water tanks (especially the red ones !), as well the new CORS type. When you look on a GCA map and see all those hundreds and hundreds of blue 'Z's it shows just how many there are out there. Shame so many are on private property and cannot be accessed at all. So as far as I'm concerned every trig that can be found and photographed is a real bonus !
The trig was quickly 'found'. Piccie taken and posted. Grabbed while heading out to the lighthouse.
Thanks Geocaching Australia !
