Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Whilst exploring some of our back roads in dry dusty conditions we came across this one, this was a close as we could get without trespassing, still looks to be in great condition

Driving out this way today and I made the detour to pass by Tooraweena Hill. The nearest section of road had my GPS saying the Trig Point was 450m away but I could see it and it didn't look anywhere near that far. In fact a short 160m walk through salt bush brought me to the three legged structure with a black disc Mr. Green While there I also spotted the remains of an old timber and galvanised tin trig marker lying on the ground nearby. While the hill was not very big, it still afforded nice views of the surrounding area.
Cheers

#GA1444 - 15:45; Day 4 of the Alice Mega Road Trip with Sol de lune. We are now headed from Barmera to Burra via Overland Corner, Waikerie, Blanchetown and Morgan plus a few other smaller towns. We didn't collect this trig on our last visit to the area in 2014, but made a visit today to make amends. TFTT Geocaching Australia Very HappyClan Cerberus

3rd Tassie Cacher in a row to log this trig. Found while caching in the area, required pic taken.

Over 2 years ago two other tassie cachers found this trig for a 2TF. Finally the podium finishes are filled and we will claim the 3TF. Whereas the other photos are taken right at GZ ours is from the fence. This one is obviously on private property and in the middle of a saltbush nursery. The dead tree to the left of the trig was full of crows. Thanks.

Today, after attempting many of the caches in the area, we went to the Tooraweena Hill trig. Two photos have been added to the Gallery: one of us standing at the trig point beacon; and, the survet marker button with the serial number 1456.

A late afternoon find on the way back to Morgan. A surprisingly good view from the summit. Found my GPSR consistently gave coordinates of the Trig around 200m west of the GCA logged coords (S34 08.024; E139 26.396), approaching from different directions.
