Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Thanks for sharing this Trig Point.
Staying in Port Hughes for the weekend. Out and about caching and taking photos for the day. Always great to get back to this beautiful state. Geocaching - Always a great way to explore areas. Lovin' life, coffees and caches, waymarks and photos letting my GPS be my guide. Does it get any better than travelling this great land of ours? It's amazing to see the country in the eyes of a Geocacher. Dancing

Thanks for the Trig Point Geocaching Australia. Appreciate you highlighting this area and bringing me here. Clapping

South Australia 2013 with Sol de Lune. We headed off on 12/4 and arrived home on 28/4. The trip was to visit the SA series so more time could be spent at the Mega itself next year. We did a huge variety of caching around Murray Bridge, the Mid North, Yorke Peninsula and Whyalla Region. Apart from one wet night and two wet days we were able to spend heaps of time caching.

One of Plenty of trigs we saw on this trip. I hope I get the right picture on each trig.

Thanks.
Albida

One of many many trigs found by Albida and myself while on our 2 week trip to, and around South Austrlia. A nice close up of this one.

Thanks for yet another trig.....we managed just over 30 for the trip.

First family Trigg point we have found, at good time too, starting to wonder where our campsite is and why out gps is sending us another direction to where we are supposed to be going.

I normally don't log trig points but since my riding partner wanted to have a quick break before heading off on the road to Moonta I took the opportunity.

We started the day as a group of 13, aiming to cycle from Moonta to Cape Elizabeth then The Gap along the beach and onto Balgowan on the track. Our leader got us 'lost' within spitting distance of Moonta and we finished up at the back of Pt Hughes. Group concensus was to ride along the beach to Cape Elizabeth - it was a slog through some ridable areas, some areas where the bike needed to be walked and a couple where carrying was the easiest option. At Cape Elizabeth 13 became 2.

My partner and I then headed south to The Gap. Going was good until the incoming tide pushed us up the beach, off the hard sand and into the 4wd tyre tracks and soft sand. More walking the bike.

From The Gap we came to the first road north, it was dirt, and my partner was starting to struggle. He wanted to hit the bitumen so we blindly continued to head east to the main road, getting there after another 9km on dirt road. This is where we stopped for the break.

For us it wasn't so much the location but the journey.

15-Nov-09
Strangely enough, the TOPO-MAP SA maps show this trig to be at:

S34° 14.578'
E137° 38.464'

These coordinates are actually on the highest point in the area, but someone must have conveiniently moved the marker to it's current location so us geocachers may log it! Nice one, farmer Weetulta!

20-Oct-09
Found this on the way down the Peninsular for a day of Geocaching.

20-Oct-09
Situated right on the intersection of Maitland/Moonta Rd and Weetulta Rd. It is right in the corner of the paddock and is easily accessable, although technically it is on private property....

30-Sep-09
I've been driving past this trig point regularly for the past couple of years. As it wasn't already in the GCA database, and didn't show up on any of my maps, I thought I'd choose this one as my first TP find.

Located in the very corner of a paddock at an intersection, it's the perfect drive-by.
