Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

#GA1046 - 08:00; Day 3 of a caching mission around the Yorke Peninsula with Sol de lune, albida33 and fitzy_1965. Sdl and a33 had logged this trig on a previous visit, so it was just f65 and I today. Located the marker and took our snaps. Also took snaps of what looked like a CORS on a small building nearby. Will log that one later if the research confirms the suspicions. Great 360 degree views of the surrounding farmland from here. Thanks, another easy South Australian trig.

With the gate at the road only on a chain, we walked up the rather rough track towards GZ. As we got near GZ we were very pleased that the cows in one paddock were preoccupying the thoughts of a very large bull in the paddock we were in. We quickly found the trig point markers, took the required photographs, and retreated before the bull's interest in the cows waned. The required photos have been added to the Gallery.

South Australia 2013 with Sol de Lune. We headed off on 12/4 and arrived home on 28/4. The trip was to visit the SA series so more time could be spent at the Mega itself next year. We did a huge variety of caching around Murray Bridge, the Mid North, Yorke Peninsula and Whyalla Region. Apart from one wet night and two wet days we were able to spend heaps of time caching.

One of Plenty of trigs we saw on this trip. I hope I get the right picture on each trig.

Thanks.
