Description
A Trig in the Melrose Valley, in the SE region of the Tuggeranong valley.
This Trig is at elevation of 772m and has commanding views over the Melrose valley (& old Queanbeyan - Cooma railway line) and the whole Tuggeranong valley, and the Brindabella and Tidbinbilla mountain ranges to the West of Canberra.
Access is via the old Cooma road, car park at S35º 25.853 E149º 07.965 beside the Monaro Hwy and the old Cooma rd. DO NOT drive through the gate on the old Cooma rd, even if open, it is regularly locked by the farmers who live up near the old railway station. The Trig point and the access to it is where the old Tuggeranong pine plantation used to be, access is a bit muddy at the moment.
A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself. (From GCA Trig points summaries)
Logs
I am Grumpy!
In memory of THEOLDREV.
After getting several photos from the trig marker, I went on to pick up a GC cache 30m away and then walked on to the old Tuggeranong siding. The whole excursion was only 1.5 hours and 4.64 km according to the GPS.

Still some good views.....
TFTT
Was a slight pain in the arse riding up here, but it sure was fun on the way back!! (ok, gravel...aint my greatest friend. nor are fences..)
If i was here like an hour beforehand, at sunset, i imagine the views would be a whole lot awesomer!! But the lights of tuggeranong is pretty cool as well
Visited on 18 October 2009 when we found Overseer cache. I remember we did this series of caches in one go and it was a beautiful early evening walk.
I certainly remember this trig - found during the run to find the 6 Pack that BigON had left us - very nice !.
TFTC !!
Nice views at the end.
Knocked this one off while doing the ONLINE series of caches plus other nearby ones.
Started at 7:30, finished at 11:30. 13km and 15 caches!
A lot harder than the one on the Hay Plains.
TFTC and the puff
Fantastic views!
Back here again chasing the nearby GC caches, noticed this Trig point isn't yet recorded in the GCA Trig points - well it is now, and I'm claiming a *FTF* too.
Magnificent views of a beautifully GREEN melrose valley to the East and a green Tugg valley to the west too.
