Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

I had an appointment north of the river and was being driven by Chwiliwr. As we were early we did a couple of GC caches in Hollywood before going to the appointment and after the appointment we headed further north to do a couple of Geocaching Australia caches. This trig that Chwiliwr had done before was one of them.

Thanks for the cache.

Laughing Visited this site as newbies back on 31st December 2010 and collected the GC cache. Back then we didn't know how to integrate the caches from GC and GCA on our GPS so we would either hunt for GC or GCA but couldnt get them both at the same time Crying or Very sad

So many sites we have revisited especially when we were gnome hunting we would grab the gnomes and not realise there was a cache less than 5mts away. Anyway this has been our closest unfound GCA cache to home for a very long time. But also one of our closest caches unfound so with the demise of Bug Lights and making a grab the other day on Peculiar Path this became our closest unfound so we had to rectify that! Laughing

There was a painter onsite painting out all the graffiti in the area too. So glad it wasn't a physical cache or I might not have been able to nab it.

Mmmmmm - well - we came, we saw (the view) but we found......jack!!! Couldn't find anything that resembled the pylon/pillar/post with a disk attached. However - after now reading previous logs I think I can happily return and go straight to the offending disk!! Will be back!

Inside the aptly named Trigg Point Park at Ocean Reef, WA is this large communications tower and trig point.
The area at the top of the hill is fenced off and you can only get to about 50m of the point.

Turn off Marmion Ave onto Leeway Drive for easy access.

You will need to park at S31° 45.841 E115° 44.831 (Shoran Court) where you can access to Trig Point and a large Communication Tower at the top of the hill. The nearby limestone steps that are the only way up to the Trig Point and the Tower (see the photos). There is a bench at the top of the hill for viewing the surroundings.

Also there is a cache namely FF Butterfly GC18NBH approx 10m away from Trig Point and the Tower at the top of the hill (whilst searching for a cache, discovered the yellow metal box with a metal disc inside).

Metal disc is located at S31° 45.817 E115° 44.858 (13m from the above coordinates) at the ground, and inside the box with yellow metal cover. There is no concrete pillar or anything being presented except the tower.

Unfortunately fathrtime came up from the wrong side at Leeway Drive that he was unable to access properly because of the hill top was partly fenced and therefore he didn’t find the metal disc (see the photos).
