Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

This is my daughter and my first time Geocaching. We saw the disc but didn't realise this was it for a while. My daughter even climbed up on the shelter roof to see if it was there

As much as I like walking in the rain and enjoy a good storm, it was nice to have a weekend exploring with cool, dry and pleasant weather.

So my iPhone finally died. I’m using an old one I keep for overseas travel and it’s so far working well. I spent most of the day redoing lists and sorting out apps etc. A few years ago someone introduced to Geocaching Australia and particularly Trig Point finds. Because GCA isn’t iOS friendly I only visited GCA caches when we cached together. Those days are gone. I decided today to see if I could get something working on my iOS Cachly app. It was mentioned at the time that apparently it’s possible to export GPX files into Cachly. I created a query on the GCA website, downloaded the GPX then tried to import via the Cachly app. This didn’t work. BUT, after some research I download the query as a .ZIP file and then was able to import this into Cachly!! Now I have a saved list and coordinates for all the Trig Points in SE Qld. A new journey of exploring begins! Thanks for the cache Smile

I found this trig with my daughter Moogiechew. We drove around trying to find a suitable access point. We parked at Thomas Street which was opposite an pathway entry point to the hill. It was a slightly humid day but not too hot. Whites Hill is a little steep and the gravel/rocks dry and somewhat slippery. We climbed to the top and enjoyed the shelter and seating area. The trig is not far away on the ground. Thanks for the trig.

We've been to this summit before while caching. Don't know why we didn't find this one then. But we're back today - it's now one of our finds for the State of the Nation game. Clapping
Thanks Geocaching Australia.

Went for a hike to Whites Hill summit to collect this Anzac Day Trophy. Not much else in QLD to find for GCA Trophies. So this was a nice easy hill climb to the summit and not a mountain climb.Found the Survey Marker and took photos with the trackables I had with me for the day...No gps I use a phone to cache. It was a day of hill climbs because I gathered a few GC smilies while I was up there. Good view when you can see through the trees. Also a great historical place that used to be the old Teahouse Site where many an early 1900's soirees were held. TFTC GCA Clan Phoenix

When we decided to do a caching trip at White's Hill was excited to see a trig point listed. This was our first trig point and was fun to find. Nice spot and fantastic view. Continued on to nearby "A Room With A View" cache.

On a visit from Sydney I was going past this landmark park so I decided to drive in and look for the caches nearby. Found one on the way in so I thought I'd go for the summit and look for the trig even though I'd neglected to put in into the GPSr. At the summit I read all the interesting info - hard to believe there was ever a hotel here! But I looked all around and couldn't see the Permanent Marker that had replaced the trig. Looked it up on the phone and put in the coords - I was 20 metres away and found it behind the shelter. Not really a trig but it will do. Would have been a great view once.

We decided to walk from home to find this trig point - not far really. It felt like we had the hill to ourselves until we got to the summit to find mum, dad and baby enjoying the view. They left and we searched for the trig point.

Took the walk to the top for what I think is the third time while geocaching.

I always enjoy the area. Found the marker point easily.

My first Trig point, I was in the area, enjoying many great cache hides and this was next on my list Smile.

As I was alone, I couldn't get myself, the trig point and the GPSr into the photo, so I hope my hand is enough Smile

The views from up here are woth it.

Easy find in an area well worth visiting. This is the first Trig Point I've done, I was in the area doing some Traditional caches and this icon popped up on the GPSr so had to have a go. Picture attached (hopefully), unlike the usual pictures this will not include the GPSr as it is the camera (Garmin Oregon 550), nor will I be in frame as I'm taking the picture. Instead I will include my loyal caching mascot as proof we really were there Smile

This cache was a sharp walk up a steep hill to the lookout and to find the easily accessible trig point. Pix attached.

This benchmark disk is set into the highest point on top of Whites Hill summit in the Whites Hill Reserve. The park is located at Carina Heights approx 10km from Brisbane CBD.
Only the disk is at the location. No metal trig station is at the site.

The disk is located in the trees behind the platform.

Access can be made from the soccer fields off Boundary Rd or from Indus or Jones St entrances. Follow the track signs to the summit.
