Description
A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.
A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.
A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.
Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.
These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.
To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.
The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.
Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points.

This Trig Point Does not have a Beacon above it. But it does have a GC Cache very near By so you will be able to get two caches in one hit.

Picked up with GrimRaider on the drive home. Lovely lookout here and drove nearly all the way to the trig. TFTT
Great view of the old rail bridge from here.
This trig will come in handy for the current summer game.
Thanks Geocaching Australia.

I've been up here before for a GC cache, but somehow I missed this trig. Rectified now. TFTC.

#GA2120 - 14:10; Day one of a caching run through eastern Victoria with Sol de lune to build on our July trip further to the west. After a few stops along the way, we had reached Orbost and collected a new CORS before grabbing this trig. Found the road in and parked the geomobile before taking the track down. Literally cleared some 'crap' off the marker and grabbed a snap before heading off for a nearby trad. Nice views of the old rail bridge from up here too. TFTT Geocaching Australia

Drove on out as far as possible, and a short walk, hunt high and low for a typical Victorian trig (certainly was not expecting a NSW style one), and kept on looking until I went to the Waymark page, and realised that it was a survey marker, which I found a few metres away. Found @ 1740

Passing through Orbost on our way to Sale with geovan in tow we stopped and snapped this trig and the nearby GC cache. Great view of the Trestle Bridge.

Not that high terrain if you come from the right direction Grabbing the cache and this Trig in a 2 for 1 effort near the end of a long caching and driving day from Merimbula to Lakes Entrance. Great views and certainly worth the slight detour.
Cheers!

On day thirteen of our excursion out of Tasmania touring from Melbourne to Canberra and return via Gippsland we toured around Lakes Entrance, staying in the seaside town for two nights. We attempted many of the caches we previously had to leave as we travelled north to Canberra. After a wild night of wind and rain, it was a pleasant day – fine and cool. We spent the morning walking between caches and then used our car for the afternoon cache hunts.
Our first visit for the afternoon was to a hill just south of Orbost. We were surprised that we could drive within about 70m of the cache. When we arrived there were muggles at the lookout but they were sufficiently far enough away from us that we were not restricted in our search. We didn't find a tripod or other marker of significant size but we did find the button on the ground. A photo of this marker has been added to the Gallery. TFTC

We did the nearby cache a long time ago, not realising this was near by.

Crikey !! I almost missed this one
I was up at the lookout to find the geocache that lives just a few metres from the trigpoint.
Only while I was returning to the geomobile did I notice that there were two waypoints on the display, one on top of the other.
Odd!! I hadn't noticed any trigpoint within just 5 metres of the cache !!
On my return to the lookout I could still see no typical trig structure anywhere.
But a scout around on the ground did find me the survey marker disc
Nice views of the Snowy River and Orbost from up here.

Found this originally when I was doing the other nearby cache. You get a top (ha ha) view of the old road and railway lie. Very nice.
