Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the centre point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself.  Log distance / telephone type pictures are against the spirit of the cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

You are not allowed to climb to Fire Lookout Tower!  A metal disc is under the middle of  the Tower at the ground level.

Nearest cache is 165 metres away and its Firespotting GC1GM4V

Logs

The fire tower has been removed and hence the trig as well. As it's no longer in situ, we'll archive this one.

Well it looks like progress has moved in here - fire tower has gone and in its place stands a telecommunications tower. There were remnant slabs if concrete from the tower but not much else, although there were sawn timbers and broken concrete in the nearby bush.
Anyway we didn't find the trig. The coordinates appeared to be under the shed next to the tower. We couldn't get close enough to see because of the surrounding high security fence.

While the others commenced a search for the nearby cache I took a detour to find the tower.

The photo is on my mobile. I just have to find out how to get it off there.

I had made the journey to this spot on a prior visit to the nearby cache but as i was driving past today it provide the chance to have another look out from here. Now if only one could climb the tower. Shhhhhhh

Quick find whilst in the area hunting caches. The trig point was easily to found as it is right under the tower and the concrete it is set into is painted dayglo orange. If only they were all this easy.

Unfortunately the serious end of the spotting tower is closed off to the public but it's a nice short 300 odd metre stroll to the tower, and the trig disc. 'CITOed' a few cans and bottles on the walk back to the car, and met some blokes who were heading up to checkout the tower.
