Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Thank you for the cache.

After finding the other nearby trig I headed off through the bush to this one.
A very nice walk with an interesting find at the end.

Found on the VK7HCH and my "Can't Be Ar%#$&" tour of the Peninsula for NY.
He was thinking of heading home on NY Day, but I talked him into having a look to see if we could get to the R/T site.
Well, as luck would have it, the gate was opened and off we went to the top. He said good luck and goodbye and headed back down to go home.
I took off following the various colours of tape to the top of the mountain. Found the beacon OK but couldn't locate the brass marker below. I think someone may have taken it....
Climbed up the beacon to look at the view, using the tree as well. Also checked out the ruins nearby as this would have been one of the signal stations used to transmit messages from Port Arthur to Hobart Town during the convict era.
Headed back to the cachemobile and I contemplated having a crack at Koonya Fire Tower trig before heading home.

A lovely walk through the forest from the Arthur Radio Tower to the Arthur MT Trigpoint. The fresh smell of damp forest was wonderful. Overall the track was well marked from the radio tower to the trig point with a mixture of orange (fded in places) and bright pink tape. The start of the track is marked by a small rock cairn next to the road leading to the radio tower. The ruins near the TP were a bonus, presumeably part of earlier communications between Port Arthur and Hobart.

Found a track from Arthur R/tower that took us 15 mins to reach this trig. An easy forest walk that was marked with tape. The ruins were a bonus here and the trees are taking over this trig but still a worthwhile view.

Collected Old Saint from his house (he was sitting around doing nothing anyway) and we trecked of to a few trig points around the port arthur area. It was great to have a companion on such a interesting walk. The tower is easily spotable from many places, but the walk up to it was very steep, but not extremely difficult. The walk was challenging, but we followed the tape markers from the radio tower and found not only the trig point, but also the ruins of convict buildings for the signal station. I don't think I could have carried the bricks up here.....

Great Trig Point.

Thank you old saint for your friendship and showing me the way to the top of the hill. I would have never got it without your guidance.

Arrived at this trig at 0916hrs. Thank God for our friends the Wallabies, as it was their tracks that I followed to the top of Mt Arthur. It looks like it had been a long time since this trig had been visited by humans. The ruins of the old signal station and its convict bricks were a pleasant surprise to find. Those poor souls sure went through hell while they were part of the convict system of centuries past. Good views through the trees of Tasman Island and the associated coastline made the effort of getting to this trig worthwhile. TFTC and cheers OldSaint.
