Description
A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.
A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.
Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.
These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.
Everyone who has logged this cache seems to agree that this particular trig IS, in fact, the large stone building with the 35W globe on top (it's 35W according to one sign, and 1000W according to a website I found ... and I have to say I find the latter rather more believable). The Cape Tourville lighthouse is relatively new in the historical scheme of things, having been built in 1971. The light is visible out to about 28nm (about 50km). There is a fantastic cliff top walk around the lighthouse, that affords great views north and south along the east coast of the peninsula and to the offshore islands. Definitely worth a visit (please note that Cape Tourville is within the Freycinet National Park and you will need a Parks Pass).
To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.
Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.
If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

After a big sleep in Bicheno it was time to find the last few caches in town before exploring Freycinet NP and beyond.
A good little walk around today. Not such a great view as windy and overcast. But works were occurring on the lighthouse and all was open at the base.

The Tardis became rather confused when it landed in front of the photo of the light. "Nooo, that's supposed to be inside; it goes up & down & makes grinding whoo whoo sounds!" After all, it is bigger on the inside.
TFTT and the journey.
"Don't go to the Jolly Rock whatever you do,
I wouldn't go near it if I were you,
'Cos lots of things happen there that aren't very nice,
And if you go near it you'll probably get mumps"!!!]
Logged the cache; i.e. the light house at 1425hrs.
Thanks for taking me here!
TFTC and cheers
OldSaint.
