Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

It's less confusing if you head up Tonganah Road which leaves the Tasman Hwy at S41 11.130 E147 34.930

Keep following the main gravel road until reaching the track turn off at S41 14.017 E147 38.535 which is the start of Jetsons Road.

Today while in the Scottsdale area I attempted to find this trig,
After weaving through forestry roads I found the one that went to the top. Luckily the track looked like it had been cleared back so I managed to drive within 350m of the trig before I came across a large gum tree across the track, so parked and walked the rest of the way up. Spotted the trig as I hit the top and snapped the required photos.
Headed back to the ute and the 300 point turn around to get back down the track.

Not the easiest place to find, but following the old TASMAP we had, we got there in the end. The start of the walking track to the top is not signposted, but is marked on the map as a vehicle track, though it's a long time since anything but a bike has been up there. It was a great walk through some nice forest, opening out at the top to some great views. We were lucky with a clear day. Very enjoyable & well worth the effort

A hint of spring in the air and a good weather forecast lured us to attempt the climb to Cuckoo Hill today. Prior to leaving we looked at previous logs but considered that we needed more guidance and we were glad that we had some extra waypoints. We turned off the Tasman Highway into Tonganah Road at S41 11.130 E147 34.930 as suggested. Then we drove to S41 11.664 E147 34.922 where we turned left. We continued on to S41 11.838 E147 35.314 where we again went left. We continued on this road until reaching S41 12.039 E147 36.709 where we kept to the left on the gravel road. When we got to S41 13.332 E147 37.562 we kept going straight ahead. After a rather windy route we got to the parking spot at S41 14.017 E147 38.535. The road was in good order for a forestry road in winter. The only issue was the number of trees down over parts of the road. Most could be negotiated, but we did have to stop a remove a small number.

After parking the car, we headed up a track - somewhat overgrown for 4WD but fine for walking. Again the only complications were a number of trees which had been blown over the track. the largest was a big wattle which would have required a chainsaw to clear but was easily negotiated when walking. It took us about 30 minutes to get to the trig point. From here, despite overcast weather, we got some excellent views northwards over Scottsdale and eastwards over Tulundeena. The return walk took only 20 minutes. With time at the top, we were back at our car within the hour.

This was a great little walk - the start of the walking track is easily accessible and on a good day, visitors should be rewarded with superb views. A really enjoyable cache.

Found on our North East caravan and caching weekend, a steady climb to the top with great views of the surrounding area.

I'd been to Cuckoo Falls years ago...so thought I'd knock this one off too. Drove in via a roundabout way but eventually getting to the turnoff. The track up is too over grown for vehicles but tops for walking...nicely shaded until near the summit. Great views over Scottsdale and surrounds...top cache...Cheers.
