Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

On a trip in the Dazzler Range area climbing a few hills. This was one of them.

We drove up here after completing the Badger Head Animal Trail, we got to the boom gate and were going to get out and walk when Trimbletas noticed the boom gate had no lock on it so we undone the boom gate and drove all the way up the top to get the trig and look for the nearby cache.

Easy find on our way home today after tackling the Badger Head trail. It was getting a tad cool late this afternoon. We got to the boom gate and thought we would have to walk the last part to the fire tower. But ever observant me checked the gate lock. The pin was just sitting in place with no lock on the bottom. Bonus!! TFTC

A road trip with Budge had us travel through the Highlands in order for me to collect those GCA caches I had not yet found
That done and having found other caches at Turners Beach and Wesley Vale we continued on to this cache
Never been here before; so enjoyed the drive to the cache but can't say any more
Sainted the cache at 1640 hours after walking from the boom gate that blocked the track on which we were travelling
It was a quick find
Thanks to the guy working in the fire tower for his assistance with the key
Our drive out was a lot better than the one in due to his help - A BIG thank you
A good cache - THANKS
Now onto our next find
TFTC and cheers

A huge day out and about caching while the 10x points offer was available. Pity this wasnt announced further in advance and them maybe people could have made an epic run for some of the many caches in other states. Disadvantages by the water again!!!

We are never going to talk about the drive

In the area, so a wee detour off Bowens Road had me soaking up the spectacular views on a bright winter's day. Would have enjoyed climbing the tower, however, spotter not about and all locked up, maybe another day.. thanks..!!

Official name and ID number obtained from DPIW ListMap database and added to trig point name.

Nice view from here. Visited a few years back when there was an observer in occupation and can say that the view is even better from the top (isn't it always!). We strolled up from the south boom gate, pondering on a society where we have to shut off a good through track, simply to prevent vandalism to a structure installed to benefit everyone in the area.

Out and about with Tassie Trekkers in their geo cruiser. Fantastic view, can see for miles. Found Bobby Dazzler #2 nearby while enjoying a picnic lunch.

Have visited this tower years ago when you could actually drive to it, no boom gate. Enjoyed the walk up the hill and was rewarded with great views on a clear winters day. A nice spot to have our lunch. Also picked up Bobby Dazzler #2 Found with whitewebbs

Rode up from Asbestos Road on the MTB on a clear and hot day. Bob invited me up to get the best view out to the west with Roland and Cradle Mt clearly visible. Spent 30 mins chatting before returning to the car. Spectacular view!!!!

Found along with UncleTom. Great spot. Would like to see it on a day where you can actually see the views Smile
TFTC!

Approached from the south and parked at the closed boom gate. GPSr said it was only 350m to the tower, but it proved to be a little longer walk as the road goes past and loops back. It was raining very lightly but consistently, so by the time we walked to the tower and back to the 4wd, we were soaked through. I imagine there would be magnificent views on a clear day.

For some time we have been considering attempting the three caches along Kerrisons Road. Well, today was the day. We approached this cache from the north after visiting Tamar's NW Summit(GCMC4R)and were able to drive within about 800m in our 2WD car - a locked boom gate prevented us getting any closer. It was a very plesant walk from the car and, despite a hazy day, we could see from the Tamar Valley in the east to the Rubicon River and Port Sorell in the west - would be a magnificent view on a clear day. TFTC

A rough old drive from the South to the boom gate then a short walk to the tower. Poor veiws due to the cloud and smoke haze.

01-Feb-10
I thought the boomgate would be open this time of year and was a bit surprised to arrive to a closed gate.. Did the walk to the top quite happily as I love coming up here, bit of a shame they closed the 4WD track up the western side of the hill. As I arrived back at the boomgate Bob turned up to start work and unlock the gate. TFTC

Finally got up here again....views as always are great.Top spot...Cheers.

Found along with the Bobby Dazzler cache. Quite an adventure getting up here. Thanks.

The Fire Tower is the actual Trig point here....so all good. Some Trig sites will not only be the standard quad beacon but Fire Towers, Fire cabins, Radio towers, cairns or in some cases Lighthouses.....which makes them even more interesting to visit. Be guided by the GPSr if in doubt as the co-ords should be spot on as they're extracted from LIST...well done dean_erwin....Cheers.

Is there still a trig point up here? I don't recalling seeing one last time I was there - will a photo of the fire tower be sufficient to log a find?

04-May-08
Found this one on my way home from the OS caching trip. Really helps if you take lots of photos when caching - you never know when you may find another cache (or trig) to log!!!!
