Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Walked kids up as the track looked like it has overgrown more since last visitors. Interesting to see how trig has changed. Tftc

Found this trig today while out and about. Track is very well over grown, but guess what I made that turn in 4 turns in my ranger.
This trig has seen better days. TFTC Clan Cerberus

The first day of a four day trip racking up 1535kms Starting at Huonville to Ulverstone (Night One); to Marrawah (Night 2); Arthur River back to Burnie (Night 3) and day four to Launceston and back to Huonville - a great trip!

This was the second cache of the trip. The Subi handled the trip to the cache with ease. However, turning around to leave required a six or seven point turn to get the wagon headed in the right direction. One car didn't quite get the turning around quite right and is still there!!
The trig has been some what destroyed but there is still enough of it to be recognised.

Quick, easy find; Sainting the cache at 1415hrs.
TFTC and cheers

knowing that there was a 2 for 1 deal here a trip in the 4WD was on. after a great drive up we realised that the GPS was not in the car. Upon reaching the top the trig point has been reduced to twisted metal and concrete. at least we got one and will have to make the return journey with GPS next time. Took photo of it on my phone but didnt turn out to well

12-Oct-12
No problems with the dip at the start and a nice climb to park next to the trig point. The trig has seen better days and all that is left are a few short remnants of the base legs in the concrete. The view back towards the highway was good but it will not last long as the trees are growing quickly.

In nearby Mersey Lea today so I thought I would sneak up Long Hill Rd a get a two-for' . checked out the ditch on the 4WD track at the start. Very hessitant to drive over it. Thought stuff it, I'm in a Hilux. Pray Sooo over I went.SCRAAPE. Whoops. That's right I have a Tow Bar. Meanwhile at the top Looked at the space to turn and remembered Landy Clan's 30 Point Turn in the logs. I can do it in less. 7 point turn. beat that! And in a Dual Cab Hilux!! Dancing Trig looks like it has seen better days.

An easily accessible trig point with ideal scenes of forestry and farm land. The Eyrettes enjoyed exploring the surrounding bushland with a couple of friends and they thought that the stroll up the hill just hard enough to be enjoyable. The nearby crashed and trashed car was not so pleasant but made a good place to hide "the fugitive" moveable cache. Thanks GCA.

Made an impulsive decision for a quick walk up here on way past, as I'd just eaten a huge biscuit from Etc! (Walk up probably only takes 15 mins though). It was a glorious evening, about 6pm and still really warm. The snatches of the views at the top were very nice, but the razed landscape for part of the way up isn't so scenic. Checked on the nearby cache "A Long View" which is still in perfect condition. On the one hand I think why didn't I take a photo of the trig the last time I was here, but on the other hand it is really nice to have a reason to re-walk some of these hills. Another good 'un, Geocaching Australia!
