Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Follow directions as for cache 'The Postmaster..GA1701'........then zig zag your way up the hill.

This was one of the most enjoyable TRIGS I have found.
No track so bashing my path to the top of the hill was great.
Even better were the views on the way up and at the top.
This was find was further enhanced by the fact that this Trig has a proper Trig Dome - Brilliant!!!
Sainted the trig at 1245hrs.
TFTC and cheers
OldSaint.

After the track left the fence line, I followed an animal pad up to the first high point over some rocks and then kept to the ridge and up to the trig. A lovely lot of black boys are regrowing since the fires of a couple of years ago. Went to take a photo with the camera and found the battery was flat. Have now learnt how to take a photo with the iphone.

Headed straight up hill from GA1701. The scrub is not to bad and thins out the further you go up. Nice views from the top and worth the effort. Returned back the same way. Thanks

This was our first big climb for the day. No clear path meant that we had to sensitively bush-bash for over 350m (as the crow flies, probably closed to 500m with the necessary zig-zagging). However, the views were magnificent once we reached GZ. TFTC

Found after visiting GA1701. Like others I could only get to within 350m without having to bush-bash. Made the mistake of trying to return to my vehicle by walking on a compass bearing, there being no evidence of any track at the Trig Point. How did they put it up? Strong recommendation that all future take this with GA1701 in the order GA1701, TP5244, then GA1701 again. Great view of Lake Llewellyn from the top. Someone in the past has made the trig point into a Christmas tree - do you like the decoration?

Came in via the cache....'The Postmaster...GA1701' which is about the best spot to zig zag your way up the hill. These two caches compliment each other...views from the Trig are awesome and well worth the extra effort. Decided to come back via direct descent to carpark...awesome off track descent. Combined both caches and returned in 51min. TFTEC GCA.....Cheers.

Came in via the Postman's Track, which was easy walking, but we could only get within about 350m of the trig. Then we were forced to bush-bash the rest of the way uphill to find the trig. As this is a National Park, there could be an environmental impact concern here? Views from the top, however, were really special, just a shame that there was no formed track up to the top (that we could find).
