Description
A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.
A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.
Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.
These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.
To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.
Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.
If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Logs
I have driven up to top of Tylers Hill many times while organising car rallies, before I knew about trig point caches of course. On one of the occasions about 12 years ago I organised to get the key to the fire tower and spent the day running the event from inside the tower itself. This made the radio communications for the event so much better and the running of the event so much easier and safer.
Last week I was asked to be a control official for the Southern Safari I thought it would be a good opportunity to get hold of the key and go for a drive back up to Tylers Hill and take the photos to log the cache.
Today I spent the day at the end of Old Hastings Road finishing and starting competitors in the rally. During the event I organised with one of the road crew officials to get the key that would get me up to the top of the hill.
After the event had finished I collected the control boards from around my control and headed back up to the HWY and headed towards Southport before turning left onto Hydro Link Road. I stopped here and remover some more signage for the rally before continuing along Hydro Link Road to where I turned right onto Tylers Road. I continued on Tylers road and stopped to talk to the road official who had just clear the section just as I turned right onto Caterpillar Road. I followed it to the first gate where it was left unlocked but shut for me by the last road official of the event, so it was a case of pulling it open and locking it behind me. I can see why it’s called Caterpillar Road as it has a lot of humps in it. I then turned hard left onto Hays Road and watched the GPS countdown to 800 m before it then started to count back up again to 1500 m where I turned left onto Tylers Fire Tower Road. I followed it as it continued up the hill watching the GPS count down and as I got closer to the top there was a little bit of snow left over from the previous day’s weather.
At the top of the hill it was very cold with the sun was low in the western sky. The view wasn’t as good today as I have seen on my previous trips up here. Unfortunately Adamsons Peak was hidden under cloud so it couldn’t be seen, Hastings Bay could be seen to the south west , Cape Bruny lighthouse to the south East and north to Dover.
I left the tower and drove back down the way I came up to Caterpillar Road and turned left and continued to follow it to Lovetts Road where I turned right and once again the gate was left shut but unlocked for me, after opening it, driving through, locking the gate behind me I turned left onto the HWY and drove to Southport to the post event dinner and presentation at the hotel.
It was a great day.
