Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

On our way to camping nearby we stopped off at Windang for lunch, then went for a walk around this interesting headland. While there we spotted this, a bit worse for wear sadly. TFTT

Visiting nearby, took a walk around the nearby park, river mouth, then across to Winding Island. The island reminds me a little of Muttonbird Island at Coffs Harbour, with fabulous views from the top here as well. Alas, no whales on view here today. Looking at some previous photos on this site indicates the trig has had a makeover fairly recently.
Enjoyed the visit Very Happy

I'm choosing to stay close to the sea breeze today... if there will be any in this heatwave. Doing a few cases along the coast whilst exploring it. This trig was one of them.

The ocean has been swallowed up by the nothing!

Note: Photo didn't load with log through app. Photo lost.

Loved this location - and after reading it's history it's fortunate it's still here. Maybe it gets busier when it's warmer but today it was deserted.

Relaxing walk from the car park, along the beach and up onto the island. What a beautiful part of the world.

All caches were found sometime between 5:49am Friday 2nd and 6:28pm Sunday 4th November. Big Grin

I’ve been invited to attend a special event in Wollongong on the Saturday, well why not make it a whole weekend away with some caching to go along with it. Big Grin About a month ago I started looking at caches I could find along the way and noticed that if things go to plan I could make my #1000. This didn’t end up happening. Sad I found out when I approached the GZ’s of a few of the caches I had chosen didn’t have parking space to stop and/or were difficult to find which lead some caches into DNF’s. Sad I did however love finding all the caches I did find and to end on an even happier note the last cache I found was a FTF (GA13111)!!! Big GrinSmile There were lots of great camos and styles of hides that I hadn’t come across before and new styles for common hides that provided me with plenty of fun and ideas for new caches. Most of the caches I found were in great condition but for the rest of them, the maintenance required is log books/sheets and/or containers need replacing, camo needs replacing, D/T and coordinates need correcting. On some of the smaller logs I signed as 2/11 JM, 3/11 JM and 4/11 JM. TB visit on all found caches over the whole weekend. I would like to thank all CO’s for the caches I found, the locations I visited and for the fun it provided me over the whole weekend! Smile
Weekend totals:
45 Finds Big Grin (41 Groundspeak and 4 GCA)
4 DNF’s and a lot of drive-bys Sad
Cache Types: 7 (Trad, Virtual, Mystery, WherIGo, Trig-Point, Earth and Multi)

I was already on the island to collect the Groundspeak caches, so why not collect this one as well. TFTTP

P.S. Sorry about the generic log.
P.S.S. All Caches found have been logged in order and backtracked to the correct day.

It's a scenic walk over the sand to this outcrop. People were swimming, fishing, flying kites. Lots of activity this Saturday. The views are worth the walk and a bonus to the trig. TFTC.

15-May-17
Out on a caching run with phlphotos and JJCC. After a walk in the sand we made it to the island and continued on to the trig. A very enjoyable early morning walk.

15-May-17
Down in the Lake Illawarra area for sunrise but it was too overcast so went for a walk to find this trig. Parked in the carpark near the toilets then went around to the track before the net. It was a tough walk in the soft sand but eventually got to the sand bar joining the island and then climbed to the top then a nice walk to the trig. The pedestal & vanes are intact thou the vanes show a bit of rust. Thanks for the trig

What a beautiful area. We walked along the beach and headed onto the island. The views were amazing. TFTT

19-Jan-15
Great spot with views up and down the coast. It was a bit rough and windy today but still worth the effort.

23-Feb-14
Found today while visiting the nearby earth cache. I spotted this trig and though it wasn't on my list, I knew I had to grab it. Great views from up on top of the island and the sea birds were circling. Thanks a lot - great spot Clapping

Found on our Wollongong caching holiday. After getting the nearby GC traditional, we quickly walked over to get the photo for this one. Shame that the area is all burnt, this is such a lovely place with a nice view. Took as the sun was still emerging from the clouds early in the morning. Very nice. TFTC GCA!

GCA 620 - 6428. Found this Trig while over here grabbing the nearby traditional and Earthcache. Great Views !

TFTC !!

12-Jun-12
Visited this one while having a Find and a DNF nearby. I knew you were meant to do SOMETHING with trigs but it's only now months later I realise they can be logged here on GCA. So here I am!

Found with McpHan on our weekend trip to Wollongong.

Nice walk out and back, but as we were getting back to the car, donw came the rain. Cool trig, thanks

471. A great walk out to this trig while the clouds gathered in the distance and then descended rapidly to drench us for the last 200m back to the car.

TFTT and the bother.

Thought I'd tick this one off the list whilst I was up on the island this morning. Very Happy

Lovely walk along to Trig. Excellent view. Thanks.

12-Feb-11
An easy to find trig with a pretty specky view. Webby and I left the family on the beach below and knocked off the two geocaches nearby. Look down below to see the crazy rock fishers. Thankfully the surf was calm - hate to see one dragged away. Great trig.

22-Aug-10
I was in the forest tracking down a couple of other caches and grabbed this one while in the area. Spotted it on arrival in the car park but left the discovery til I was done with the others... A fantastic spot to visit while in Wollongong.

Cheers...

Found during our 2010 Wagga to Wollongong Caching tour. The tour was conducted over 5 days taking in the various sites and towns situated between these two cities.

10-Jan-10
Was strolling by, for a nearby multi. Post pics soon as I work it out...

03-Dec-09
As already stated by previous cachers. I as well was here for another cache and picked up this Trig at the same time. Indeed spectacular views from here!

01-Dec-09
Up this way adding to my Trig count. The southerly was blasting away making for an uncomfortable time on the island. Took the photo & skidaddled.

29-Nov-09
Stumbled upon this trig while on the hunt for another cache, and stopped to admire the 360 degree views. A lovely spot to visit, with a great rock platform, excellent fishing (if the number of fisherman reeling in fish was anything to go by) and the beaches aren't too bad either!
