Description

York TS?

Official name of this Trig Station as per NSW Department of Lands is: York.

Serial number is: unknown.

Last inspected on: No data.

Elevation is: 1045m.

The Station no longer exists, but there is a plaque on the ground showing where it once stood.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

At the top of Mount York, the original trig has disappeared, but the marker remains. Worth the trip just for the views!

We started our afternoon up on Mt York, mainly for these two trigs..... great views from everywhere up here.... We initially thought the pillar was the trig, then spotted the marker/plate on the ground.

Out doing some abseiling training here at Mt York today, good to see it is finally open again after the fires. I have been trying to get these for some time patiently waiting for the road to open. A beautiful Autumn day to be out in the mountains and a quick and easy grab.

ANZAC day – left home about the same time I would go to work. So, as I was traveling west I could see many people at the dawn services along the way. I must say it look like parking was a premium so it looks to have been a good turnout. Did the caching run today to claim Celebration Day : ANZAC Day - Find a geocache on ANZAC Day, so I did & this is one of them.
Came down here & there was many campers & 2 ambulances so I did only these 2 trigs & not the many waymarks & other caches in the area. At least the trigs area I had to my self on this day – thanks

Found the nameplate and the accompanying SSM 35103 near the direction plate. The SSM was placed in 1963 but didn't get its number until 1978. Was the trig here until 1963? It would be interesting to know the history.

Found whilst doing a cache run in the area with teamMerlin.

Came through on a cache run this afternoon and collected the two trigs at Mt York. A fantastic view from GZ, well worth the visit.

When I arrived at GZ, I first thought it was the disk on the pedestal, but then saw the plaque on the ground. I decided the the pin/plaque was the right trig to snap a photo of. A direction disk thingy isn't a trig, but a cool pedestal that clubs like the rotary place at lookouts, right? Well thats the way I look at it anyway. Smile

Dropped by while getting the newer listed York Obelisk trig, and got a photo of the 'Direction Plate' and trig name plate.

08-Aug-15
found while doing the Footsteps in Time multi following the trail of markers for Evans with the final one here. It's always good seeing the old trigs remembered somehow rather than getting rid of the placement entirely. Thanks for the trig

At least there's a trig-looking thing near the trig plate

Found today with GrimRaider on a freezing cold road trip to Katoomba. We pulled in here to grab the large GC cache and then continued down here to have a look. Great stuff, a trig point with lots of great history to read about. Wow, the places that caching takes you. Thanks a lot - great to visit here today.

Noted this marker at an earlier time but did not then understand its relevance. A glorious spring day found myself back at this great vista location and a pic capture.
(A State Survey Marker bonus nearby.)

31-Aug-13
Found in the company of Grahame Cookie during our challenge weekend in the Blue Mountains.

Great views from up here.

31-Aug-13
Found this trig marker on the way out to Bathurst with 'Team' Juddda.
Great views today, tho a touch smokey. Had been out here MANY years ago, but don't remember getting a photo of the marker.

02-Jun-13
An easy trig to find, much needed after I DNF''d the CORS in Lithgow.

27-Oct-12
Sophie and I stopped in on our way back from Dargans Creek Canyon. The following day, I was back here learning to abseil. I hope to come back soon and walk some of the historic tracks around here.

24-Sep-12
We were out along Mount York Road doing a few of the GC caches. I stumbled across this trig on the way back to the car after finding the last cache, and in keeping with my personal rule that I will log trigs if I stumble across them, I got a picture with me and the boys at this one.

Didn't realise this was a point to look for until we got back, we had taken a photo of it by fluke. Nice to add another for the day.

07-Nov-10
I've been up to the top of Mt. York many times in recent years, but I guess I just didn't notice this old trig base next to a very beautiful view. Lots of people visiting today, with a welcome burst of spring sunshine during the afternoon, but nobody takes any notice of a man taking pictures of a trig and nearby survey mark. Anyhow, a great excuse to drive up to this famous Blue Mountains lookout and so another GCA find . . .

03-Aug-10
Great View, cold day

23-Apr-10
Nice easy find and we got to enjoy a beautiful sunset!

17-Jan-10
Found this Geodetic plaque while visiting the lookouts in the area with friends. The trig station is no longer there only the plaque remains. It is right next to a NSW State Survey Marker (35103). Great views from there.

While the actual trig marker no longer exists, the plaque on the ground is still in perfect condition. There are amazing views and several important historical markers in the vicinity of this point, as well as a GC cache, making it well worth a visit.
