Description

Jamberoo TS 5898

Official name of this Trig Station as per NSW Department of Lands is: Jamberoo.

Serial number is: TS 5898.

Last Inspected on: June 6, 2000.

Elevation is: 629 metres.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

Awesome views over the the hinterland extending to Wollongong await the visitor to this Trig.  Accessible by a hard but short walk through dense scrub. You will need protective equipment such as gaiters, stout footwear & a quality long sleeve shirt.  Topographic Map is 'Kangaroo Valley' however should not be necessary now. The scrub is thick, thorny & very scratchy. Suggest you park at the nearby lookout & then walk up the road past the rocky outcrops to a point where an ill defined gully will take you up to the Trig.  As usual found this easy way up on the way down.

3:20pm and we made it. We left the car park and made our way through the bush along what looks like a track. Scratching my head wondering if someone or something has been through here somewhat recently and cleared a path as I don't remember this access last time, and I noticed some broken trees that I didn't think would occur here, but I suppose anything is possible. As we closed in on the first rock formation seen from the lookout things began to get steep and thick. We tried to meander our way around the obvious looking tracks. Down a little bit of steep section and up, up and up another. We came to a rock face and didn't know how to tackle things from here. Should we go back and find another way or head for the rock face and climb up beside it. My companion opted to go back and find another route which we did as it was clear the Trig and the movable cache we were after was not directly ahead up but and over. Back we went for a few metres and then headed in a steep north north west direction finally making our way up onto the rocks. It was also clear this was a good choice as there was no Trig near here. Moving through the undergrowth through here was again very challenging and at one point I noticed there appeared to be a cliff ahead, so we wisely backed off and headed a different direction. My companion turned around and excitedly announced the Trig could be seen ahead. Fortunately for us the negotiation of thick scrub was short lived as we tried to remain on the rocks. We excitedly arrived at the Trig and then spent some time searching for the 'movable cache' which I found and a thrilling moment it was. After all we had been through I was really not wanting to leave it here until another time. i decided we should head directly to the road and what a wise decision it was. The scrub was not thick at all and we were able to meander along the Kangaroo/Wombat tracks, so much easier !! and then scale down the rocks nearer the road. Then we had some fun meandering our way through the thick ferns as carefully as we could. Out on the road we went and then walked back to the lookout.

I my opinion, anyone wanting to go to this trig should go 'directly in' from the road. It is abundantly easier and quicker.

My trip with LuckyL10n down to The Gong for a heap of GCA caches was here and this was my first find for the day. An interesting bush bash up to the trip, but all was good and we were soon at the trig.....admiring the great views over the valley.

Well worth the odd scratch to get here. TFTT.

#GA634 - 09:00; Sol de lune and I had discussed a wild trig hunt in the Illawarra quite a while ago and today was the day we tried to bring home the bacon. I had picked up my first, which Sdl had previously found, so this was the first joint find for the day. We managed to do the bush bash to the trig, where there were also some spectacular views. Snap shots taken, it was back to the geomobile before heading off down the mountain and more finds along the coast. TFTC Geocaching Australia Very HappyClan Cerberus

Parked at the near by look out and made my way though the bush to the trig. Awesome views all around here. Smile

Parked at the closest point on the road and bush bashed to the trig, not too bad, a 100m or so. Trig found no worries. Some great views from here.

Have gone through all my local Topographic Maps looking for unlisted Trigs & this is one of them. On top of Jamberoo Pass & not far from the lookout. Climbed up boulders, then climbed down boulders although climbing down is more difficult then climbing up. Checked the GPSr for altitude as the Topo indicated it was 657m ASL & then there it was. Very satisfying scramble through thick scrub & a FTF. As usual found an easier way down.
